A safe estimate for a 7th gen would be between $3K and $4K depending on what deals can be found on the parts.

Not always true, especially if you still owe on the car, the chances of you actually breaking even selling your car and picking up another are not good, stealerships are not there to break even. The you have transfer of any mods, then of course who knows the true condition of the new car......

I will never understand this personally. Why get an auto in the first place? Why drop $4k on a tranny swap? Waste of money if you ask me, just pay off the car and get a MT one next. You could use that $4k for a downpayment on a home for christ's sake.

I agree with you totally just weighting my options, I really shouldve gotten a manual one from the start but my old car broke down on me, and it cost too much to repair it, so I was in need of a car asap, so I didn't even think about It, now i regret not getting stick, dnt get me wrong I love my accord but stick would be much more fun

Where do you live that 4k is a down payment on a home?

It's really not that bad if you need a new transmission anyway...

Our cars came in a V6 version, so the swap is not as big of a concern as with cars that never came as a 6spd, it is "simply" changing out those parts that are different.

OP, after doing a quick search, hers a link i found to the first ever 6spd swap in a 7th gen.
http://www.v6performance.net/forums/...ght=kevin+swap

this car now belongs to Mr.X and still going strong. it was done by alan and chui (C&C auto) who isnt around anymore, but chui has his own shop now which is called 4AE. he's the brains behind the whole operation and was also the first to successfully swap a TL ecuin a 7th gen, with working tiptronic floor and paddle shifters in a 7th gen, when some said it could not be done.

to bad you werent here in so-cal. his work is second to none and so are his prices

Indy and its not a big downpayment but it'll get you in the door faster than having nothing if you understand the borrowing market right now brah

4k isn't bad if you need a new tranny but he doesn't he just wants to drop it to get a 6MT. My point is why not just pay off the car and then get a MT? Saves you a lot of money in the long run, just my opinion of course. Not my money, not my problem.
