Exclamation TL Brembo Brakes

I've looked through www.acuraautomotiveparts.org and recently they list the new 2004 Tl parts. The Brembo calipers are pretty cheap compared to the Brembo racing calipers which goes like 2K5. Also, the TL Brembo would be better for daily driving as well as some autoX I think.

So the question is: Can it be installed into our Accord? If so, how difficult would that be?

At certain scenario I feel that I need more brake power because the OEM brakes kinda feel sluggish to me at times when I need it.

Thanks.

I would like to know if they fit as well. I know the TL, CL, and TSX share a lot of the same suapension parts as our Accords. It would be nice (and cheaper) if we could use some of their aftermarket parts.

How much are the TL Brembo calipers? And is the disc the same diameter or larger than the AV6's?

This is interesting, but I have a feeling Brembo's from Acura aren't going to be cheap.

Any idea if the honda part #'s are the same? That would be a good way to check

With all other issues aside, you're going to need at least 17" wheels. Also, our spare will be worthless (16").

Brake Caliper Sub-Assembly (15 & 16) is MSRP $354.83 and discounted $283.86 for each side.

Brake Pads (17) are MSRP $175.46 and discounted $140.36 each side.

Brake Disk 17" (3) are MSRP $153.30 and discounted $122.64 each side.

Which makes the total of discounted $1092.72

Sounds cheap to me for a full Brembo set since they are easily sold for more than $2k on the market and they are not suitable for daily driving because they need certain temperature to work best.

Ok I did some more digging. If the front ends are the same as the pics above, then I say yes it will work. Below is what I found.

Caliper (Left and Right) - $283.86
Pads (Front Set) - $140.36
Rotor (Assumming this is for 17" wheel) DISK, FR. BRAKE (17") - $122.64

The Damage: (assuming you do not have a (6Mt)

Caliper Left $283.86
Caliper Right $283.86
Pads $140.36
Rotor Left $122.64
Rotor Right $122.64
Total $953.36
Total $953.36

That is a little steep if you ask me. I have a 6MT and I have used my spare. But I could see why it would not work with the TL Brakes. IF all else fails get AAA or a spare for a TL.

Regards

GW

Damn...me too I was looking at the Brembos and they were like $2,300. That's too rich for me...now I can handle $1,000.

Ok...who's going to be the first one to try?

You all found the Acura Brembo goodies too, eh?

The only real point here in question is will the TL knuckles fit the Accord. That's what we really need to know. If the geometry of them is the same for both cars, this should work. I highly doubt the Brembo calipers will bolt onto our existing knuckle assemblies.

I'd love to do this setup, as I was about to just give in and go with TSX knuckles & rotors. Yes, they are larger than the OE Accord's (at least the non MT6 version.)

Edit: As stated by Willshire earlier, 17" wheels minimum with this upgrade (we all hope for it anyway.) I'd think a new spare would be in order as well too, but shouldn't be a problem with the OE TL unit.

Man I want those brakes. These cars stop like crap. Wouldn't mind the rears from the TL, either (maybe I should have bought the TL? Too late now...). I've been looking at this mod for a while, and my guess is that the price will come down when some aftermarket rotors and pads are available. $280 for 4 piston Brembo calipers is a steal, but $120 for rotors is a little steep. Same with $140 for pads, unless they're track pads (which these are not, I'm sure). My guess (hope?) would be something like:

Calipers: 2 x $283
Rotors: 2 x $60
Pads $60

Total: $750

$750 for 4 puck Brembos? The cheapest upgrade kit for my 911 (with smaller rotors!) is $1700. I'd do this in a minute if it were a bolt on mod. Even if you have to buy TL knuckes, it only adds $200 to the total price.

Agreed. With some nice OE Brembo blank rotors & various brake pads from the aftermarket vendors, we're in like flynn.

Hopefully our wheel bearings & hubs will fit the TL knuckles as well, as I really think this will be the only way to facilitate these on our cars. This would make for a nice under a grand 4 pot Brembo brake system.

What would be the difference for a 6MT? I have the 6MT with OEM 17 in wheels. Not sure if my rotors are the same size as the TL but they are damn close. I think it's 11 7/8"

Good question. Do you have, or can take some high res, close up pics of your front wheel/tire? I'd like to see the "gap" around the rotor in relation to the inside wheel diameter. Like this:

honda's parts usualy are interchangable. for example brake calipers of Legend fit 6gen accord V6, 4 & 5 gen prelude, 2 gen of CL and 2gen TL, and maybe 7gen accord as well. so, its very likely knucke on 3gen Tl will fit Accord.

Btw, accord knockle part # 51210-SDA-A02 (right) & 51215-SDA-A02 (left)

Brembo brakes on a 7th. generation would be sweet. Are they slotted and/or cross-drilled?

Anyone here think that the Service Manual for the TL and Accord would shed light at to the compatibility of this MOD?

Not really. It shows pictorials, but someone will need to physically look at the two side by side to check for compatability. I guess the best way is to buy one of the TL knuckles, and go from there.

Edited for grammiticals.

In that case... Anyone in SoCal that works for an Acura Dealer ship that can offer a no hassle return policy?

If this MOD works I can all save enough for a new exhaust to go with my Brembo.
