Changing the cat near midpipe.

Hi guys! Has anyone tried it already, theres a very small catalytic converter right after the midpipe ends going into the downpipe that doesnt have any sensors attached to it so if changed your engine light would not come on. I was thinking of putting in a test pipe or a better performing cat now my question is who makes one out there? or would I have to have one custom made?
Second question is-has Comptech released their downpipe yet and if yes how much are they?
Thanks a lot for your input guys!
ps:drag racing season is almost here in BC so I wanna do as much as possible before I hit the track.

I've read where our cats are very high flowing, and not very restrictive at all. Also that those "hi-flow"cats on eBay wouldn't really help.

Imo, only a test pipe would be higher flowing, and even then I'm not sure there would be any appreciable gain.

Tman..

You can find if comptech has released by checking their web site.. and the quick answer is NO.

I have heard people removing the entire cat, resonator, and pre-muffler.. dunno how much gain that would be.. besides.. you always have Air Care/SMOG to worry about i guess...

Thanks guys! I was thinking whether that would be much gain myself too, oh well will wait for Comptech then unless someone else releases theirs earlier.

Yea, I think there is room for much improvement on the b pipe (or whatever it's called)...... probably cost a grand though.

Ya I know Comptech is not cheap, I never bought anything from them but unless someone else maybe even Tanabe makes one I would be very tempted to buy it. But everything takes so long to be made for our car compared to say TSX's.

i actually bought one of those hi flow cats off of ebay for $50. it is nice stainless steel and straight through design. it made minimal difference at high rpms only (then again my car is completely stock except for intake resonator removed.) It does look good replacing the heavy rust can thats on there now.. then again who really looks under there anyway. its a cheap mod and only 6 bolts so in my opinion it wasnt a total waste.

There is no way the check engine light should come on. The reason why is because there are no sensors attached to it. Plus, I have mine removed and have gone thousands of miles without it. Maybe because yours is an I4?
THere is a significant difference since I have a 2.5 inch setup all the way to dual magnaflows. From where the J pipe meets the exhaust, its 2.5 inches. I noticed a huge difference in mid to top end performance.
The factory exhaust is too restrictive to the J30A4 engine. Let it breath!

The only thing you need to worry about is passing smog.

Let it breath, I'll say it's more like let it take a sh1t without straining.

Since nobody seems to have any solid evidence why not be a poineer and get a custom set up?
