misshifted to 9k.

So i missed 5th and shifted to 3rd.

Engine still runs strong but there is a louder ticking noise.

I was planing on putting RL cams in. Do u think only some valves are bent. I can get j32a3 for around 500.

Im thinking of doing a head swap with new cams in as that would be a bit easier. What do u guys think?

There is no facts until you tear it down to see what was hurt. If metal got in the engine, get a used engine.

If you have bent valves, you'll have slightly lower than normal compression that will worsen the more you rev and drive the car, as well as misfire codes that will start popping up on idle.

You can do compression tests and wait for codes to show, but you most likely bent all of your exhaust valves.

Swap the J32A3 heads, do a valve adjustment, and you will be good to go.

Mattyu broke a rocker when he misshifted ended up getting a new top end. At the very least you will need to take the head off and fix it. But the cost and labor is as much as that j32a3 motor

Ya the valves were quieter before mis shifting. My engine is coming on monday. The second camshaft is on backorder in canada. I guess once it comes in do the head swap asap.

On a side note i did my pcd yesterday and found one cat was melted. I did have a timing issue before i got the car with the timing belt skipping.

Dont think its just a valve adjustment. Was quiet before i overrevved.

So in closing, im grabbing a tl head to bolt on for now. Probably will port and polish the head and maybe intake runner before i drop my RL cams into them.

Does anyone know if the 86 bore size will matter to the head which fits 86mm?? Also can i use a 86mm headgasket?

Tl head the same size as the accord u less you are using a type-s. Use the gasket that matches the head. TLS use a different gasket. I have a TLS head in my closet.

Clicking isn't always bad, however if it is after a missed shift it usually means a myriad of bent valves. Mine sounds like a damn Harley right now, however that's due to bad valve timing on one of the back valves I believe.

Plus having a car that sounds like a Harley at idle is probably as close as I will get to having a heavy cammed car on the road sound.

I dissassembled a tl and a rl block. The head gasket is the same. Is it confirmed okay to run the 89mm rl gaslet on a 86mm bore block?

they are the same dome size on the head side, but look at the coolant jacket hole. The RL are much larger then the J32.
