No more than 12lbs on her. I was at a wall when I ran the stock j35a8 at 15lbs. That's when knock counts got too difficult to control. I put the top ring at .017" and the middle at .025". Better too much than not enough when dealing with forced induction.

Sweet build! Definitely will be an interesting setup and I am excited to see the results. Now...are the J37a2 heads really that much of an improvement over the J37a1? I know Dual VTEC is a great option for us J series guys, I'm just wondering really.

Also, any pics of the intake manifold?

Thanks man. This will be my first time dealing with the dual VTEC heads so its unknown territory as far as advantages go. Comparatively speaking, all the later model 3.7's (10 MDX, 09 RL and 09 TL) are all producing nearly the same amount of horsepower and torque but the 10 MDX doesn't even have dual VTEC heads...and makes max torque 500 RPM's sooner than the other two models!? But, I'm convinced that there may be some good to find in these heads especially for those running any form of boost or nitrous where exhaust gases need to have maximum flow and/or minimum restriction. Forced induction (as you may or may not know) is greatly affected by any hinderance in exhaust gas evacuation and the higher lift profiles of the j37a2/a4 heads during VTEC engagement should compliment this perfectly. Just to give you an idea between the 10 MDX (intake VTEC only) and the 09 TL (intake and exhaust VTEC) 3.7's, the exhaust lobe measures 36.760mm and 37.370mm respectively. And both cams use the same base circle diameter if my memory serves me correctly.

The intake was CNC machined and hand welded by Matt Hickam of Hickam Series Fab in Ft Worth, Tx. Here's a few pics:

And in raw finish

Smoothed Venturi style runners.

Oem. If you can avoid heavy knock, stock rings can actually endure moderate boost levels very well. It's when you don't open up the gaps things turn to **** real quick! Just ask this j37a4 here who was subjected to some very serious heat from detonation:

^ love the baby gap, that's where I buy all my cloths.

I was told (TB Motorworx) 100shot on stock rings is safe. So I guess an exacting amount per cylinder with direct port is safe also. Who know how much nitrous one cylinder is getting over another on a single nozzle set up.

Back to the topic, great build !!

Will that IM fit under the hood???

Maybe .01-.02" tighter than my specs given above per ring? There's really no telling since the name of the game is simply not too much that blow by happens and not too little that ring contact occurs. It really has more to do with how much power will be added by forced induction (or spray) than any other factor. With higher power comes more heat and with more heat comes a heightened chance of ring to cylinder contact during moments of increased power output. For any mild amount of boost or spray, I've stuck with the bore x .005" formula for the top ring and then bore x .007" for the second. Bore being measure in inches. Always keep oil rings at their oem specs in regards to gap.

I consider their recommendation to be a very loose statement. As in a good standard by most whom of which have no, little or "know it all" amounts of knowledge to running nitrous. That's because (as you say) most people run the single nozzle setups and have much higher potential of leaning out a close or over feed cylinder when spraying. I've personally ran 200hp+ shots through a single nozzle using OVER 54 bottles of nitrous on a 130k mile motor before finally blowing guts and nuts out the bottom...due to running cylinder 2 too lean. Hahaha

Direct port is supreme. Equal distribution of air, fuel and nitrous into each cylinder will definitely bring longevity to the motor. Well, so to speak.

Modestly speaking, hell no that intake doesn't fit under the hood!!! I'm going to have to have a custom hood made for the damn thing. That's actually my biggest tragedy with the car right now. But hey, if that's my biggest than I guess I'm fortunate.
