K tuner testers needed

Apparently....k tuner needs testers for the 7g. Seeing as how I just got hondata I'm out. I was instructed to forward any interested parties to the ktuner website. You will find an email address there you can email them and tell them your interest. Tell them you were referred by this thread from v6p.

I spoke with the owner/creator. For some reason he did not have interest in making this thread himself, so I decided to take it upon myself (with his permission of course).

This could be a good opportunity, and a step forward for the 7g community!

I sent an email as well. Don't know if I'm a candidate but what the hell, why not give it a shot right?

Just read your mod list. Are you still on the stock catback? If so, I'd recommend a cutout to get you that extra power up top. I have very similar mods and gained ~25-30whp up top from the cutout over stock exhaust.

They already support 8g and 9g Js. I made a comment that if hondata can support the 7g then ktuner should be able to also. It was then the owner contacted me.

Got a reply from Ktuner today. Bummer

"As far as I know only MT applications have been successful swapping to a newer ECU. Retaining the factory ECU is possible with the use of a battery charger during flashing. Flashing the factory ECU takes a much longer time and it is more risky in the event of a failure."

It sounds like they have at least tried messing with the AT's. I don't understand what is so inherently different in the ECU's from the MT and AT?!? I should've waited to find a 6spd.

I think the 03-06 would also require an ECU swap just because it is running on the slower k-line bus instead of the canbus line. Its like 56k vs board band internet. all of the 07+ honda/acura switched to the faster canbus. (a few models before 06 had the canbus e.g civic si)

Would a product that runs on the slower k-line be viable for some drivers? I might be willing to put up with the slowness if it meant I didnt have to swap the ecu but not sure of all the downsides of working on kline. It would mean install about $800 to $1000 less and simpler. Especially for novices like myself

I think the issue is if you interrupt it while it is programing it will corrupt the whole ecu. You would probably have to have the car hooked up to a battery tender to make sure that voltage doesnt' drop. I think that would be more of a liability issue with the company (may brick ecu), but if you are fine with the longer wait time (10-15 mins) you should contact them and let them know. Flash pro takes 2mins to reprogram the ecu just for reference. I also had time where I didn't have enough power and it stopped midway, but it didn't corrupt the ecu. Just needed to charge the battery and do it again

Congrats on 8k posts thisaznboi88!
I emailed and told them i am looking for a simpler/less expensive tuning solution even if it isnt as fully capable as one with ecu swap. There is already an ecu swap product on the market so not sure why to have one more.

But i think there might be a market for a stock ecu tuning solution, even if it doesnt do everything but can do some of the main things such as vtec window timing, etc. then for those that outgrow that they can graduate to an ecu swap product.

This is all new to me but those are my thoughts

Send inquiries in via email. I told him there was demand so don't make a liar out of me v6p!!! Haha

on a more important note thisaznboi88 deserves to be commended. We had multiple problems with hondata install today (most user/operator error not hondatas fault). But still I did my research and searched a lot. I learned from other threads and thought I had it nailed down. (The canbus wiring I did have right good instructions from hondata).

Reality proved differently and ken helped me through the obstacles. For anyone tackling an ecu swap for tuning just do yourself a favor and rent the fly100 from ken. Honda/Acura dealer wouldhave given up on me after 30 mins. He spent 4+ hours till it was right. BRAVO!!

Go to their website...just use the general email and identify yourself as a 7g user interested in being a tester for ktuner. You must have a 6-6 though.

Not gunna happen, interrupting and rerouting the engine signals would have to be done on three ends, one to engine from ecu, one from ecu to AT computer, then one from AT computer to ecu. It's a complicated mess.

Realistically if you get to the point where cooling mods and fluid variations can't cover your hp to the ground, you can afford a standalone.
