2nd attempt at a manual tranny swap

Hey guys so I was ripped off by a mechanic and I think I'm never going to get my money back. So I opted to do an entire tranny swap from a complete Acura TL. I found this on Craigslist for $4,500 it's in terrible condition cosmetic wise but the engine runs good and the transmission seems good. Tell me what you guys think for this price, keep in mind I am in Hawaii and this is a rare find.

You could. Or you can sell the accord and rock a tl.

I could but you probably can't tell by the pictures just met up with the guy today to look at the car. The thing is totally trashed the dash is cracked the seats are unusable and this scratches everywhere completely oxidized. The only usable Parts on this car really is that engine and tranny radio air condition cosmetically it's worth nothing

Ahh yeah test drive the car hard and see if there is issue. If not drop the whole drive train in (engine and trans)

Yeah this will most likely be a donor car sadly. I intend to test drive it hard once the guy gets it legal which should be this coming Friday at the latest one thing I was wondering though could I swap my J30 engine into the TL? Otherwise I'll just have an empty shell which is undrivable and worth a lot less.

The amount of work and extra parts cost (shifter and a few other things) really not worth it to drop the AV6 AT power train in.

Alright that's what I was thinking would be the case, my tranny is about to go anywaysthat's, the reason for a 6 speed swap. There's also this one that just popped up in my area for a little more, but it's in much better condition, I'll know for sure in a couple hours after I take a look at it in person.

The first one sounds perfect if mechanically sound. And dont forget that there will be alot of parts on the carcass (head lights, ballast, brembo brakes) and other parts, several can be used on your car like the front brakes and rear hubs so you can convert to "shoe" parking brake and not have to deal with frozen calipers.

Yeah the first one was just such a turn off because it was absolutely disgusting inside it was unbearable to be in there for a long period of time. After looking at the second TL today, the black one. It runs damn good and doesn't have a bunch of missing parts like the other one. The price difference for the quality of the car is a no-brainer I'm going to get the second one. not to mention it comes with almost new Concept One CSL5.5 rims, also on Tein Super street coilovers, inspire fogs, a free visor not yet attached, and NO MISSING PARTS. Best part is a clean title. We agreed at $6500 so I should be getting it by Tuesday, Friday at the latest.

Also I wasn't able to test drive the first one to the best of my ability because it didn't have any plates so I couldn't take it too far. This black one I looked at, the owner took me on a test drive but with him driving and he definitely showed me the full potential of the car, it shifts so smoothly and the injen CAI sounds so good.

Why are you paying 6,500 when the CL ad says 5,500?

5500 is without the almost new Concept One CSL5.5 rims. 6500 is with the rims

Ok guys so I got the car I've had my fun with it and I've already burned that clutch but in my defense I was kinda asking for it by kicking the clutch in 3rd gear haha. Anyways no biggie because like I said I'm ripping this entire engine and drivetrain out of the TL and putting it in the accord.

Before all of this I need to give an update on my current situation with the accord. It was recently totaled and I bought it back so since my TL isn't running and neither is the accord I used the money to buy a 02 lexus is300 in the meantime. The accord is nowhere near totaled, I was hit on my rear passenger side wheel and it caused minor subframe damage. I can fix it I just need the parts (subframe, possibly new wheel hub/kunckle and strut)

So I've got a full plate now. My daily is the lexus. My donor car is the TL, oh and I forgot to mention I just scooped up a J32A3 w/ an automatic tranny from a totaled TL with only 60k miles on it for a price I couldn't turn down. So I'm going to leave the engine in the TL, put that 6 spd in the accord with that 60k mile J32 AFTER it's fixed and legal again. Then either part out the TL, sell it as a whole as is, or spend a little more time and money looking for another totaled automatic TL and if the price is right take all those interior parts and convert the 6 spd TL to an automatic tiptronic TL then sell it for more and make more. If I wouldn't make more in the end and it becomes a headache to find a totaled TL or all the parts I need then I will not go through the trouble of converting that TL to auto and getting it running because I don't need 3 cars I'm just trying to get rid of it at that point. I'm perfectly content with my RWD lexus and my FWD accord. I just really want to build the engine on the accord and definitely do a turbo down the line.

Right now my first step is to make a parts list, and it's gonna be long.
