top speed

I usually drive around 75 ~ 80mph on my way to work. I've kicked it up to 95 ~ 100 a few times. But I havehaven't got the car over 100 mph. The car seems to take too much time going from 85 to 100. When I had my GTP, the jump from 85 to 100 was instant. How fast have you guys got your AV6 to go? I'm starting to wonder if this thing wont go any faster.

The automatics are electronically limited to 130 mph, although the speedo may read (incorrectly) higher. The 6-speeds are not electronically limited.

Are you in D3 when you're accelerating from 80/85 to 100? You need to be for maximum acceleration. I would think your AV6 should be able to cover that range at least as fast as your GTP did (assuming it was stock), cause that's in a very favorable part of the power curve for the J30A4.

the gtp coupe was stock.

I'm wasn't in D3, I didn't know I needed to be.

I asked the question because I've seen pictures people have taken at 100 mph, but nothing faster.

The 6-speeds ARE limited. Same thing, around 130mph. Fastest I ever got it was 132 (going down a hill)

You don't have to be, but the best accelleration would come in D3. D3 should run up to about 100-105 mph max.

It'll go a lot faster than 100, that's for sure. I've only gone about 120 in mine, but I think some others have gotten it to 130.

There are 6-speed'ers here who have definately gone well over 130 mph. I'm pretty sure the consensus was that the manuals were not electronically limited, so . There are a couple threads on this topic already....... that's where you'll find posts about running 140 or faster. Iirc, somebody even gps'ed theirs in the 140's.

I keep hearing people say that they arent limited without being shown one stitch of proof. I haven't seen anyone who GPSed into the 140s. I do not see why one would be and the other not. Because even though there is stiffer suspension and whatnot on the 6sp, the accord just isnt safe up in that level for any period of time.....given the fact that rotors are already warping left and right, tapping the brakes would be a very bad thing regardless of the tranny.

You'd have to be a to even THINK about tapping the brakes at 130+ mph. I've gone up to 135 mph in my auto (4-cyl.) before the gas pedal pushed up. I've only done it very late at night when there isn't a car in sight so I could just let off the gas to slow down rather than having to use the brakes.

So if the manuals aren't electronically limited, when does it stop? When the tranny explodes? More than likely, the manuals are limited too. The additional gear in the 6spds might allow them to get a little bit above 135 mph.

It stops when it's drag limited and doesn't have enough power to gain any more speed, which I wouldn't think would be much higher than 130.

One stitch coming up..................

Here's someone who gps'ed their AV6 at 139 mph on a flat road, and 145 down a grade.

http://www.v6performance.net/forums/...919#post338919

I'm sure I can find other threads where peeps have gone way over 130 also, but those would probably be based on the speedo reading, which has some error in it.

And Honda makes their top speed decisions for their own reasons, not necessarily to make sense to you.

I actually wondered this myself last night while I was coming home from work around 1 am. Opened it up on the local 1.5 mile toll bridge and it pulled fairly easily to 128 then slowed down considerably due to drag. The highest speedometer reading was 134 and I was waiting for the fuel cutoff but I ran out of room.....my brakes took a serious beating going from over 130 to 0 in about several hundred yards I have an auto v6 by the way.

Mine is limited to 135, well it was before I installed my intake (which I just did) but I'm guessing it's still limited to 135. That's plenty fast for me.

I've had it pegged to the floor at 135 and it just doesn't go faster.

And upon closer examination, the cruise control is on and set! At 132 mph.

I wonder what kind of numbers he made on that pull.

Re: top speed

drop the car out back into D. Much like the GTP, D will take the auto to about 108-110mph. Not sure as I watch the tach not the speedo. it will definitely keep you up with if not better than a stock GTP there. Shift manually though. You'll likely pull even with one up to about 115mph and from there pass it. The AV6 is in it's home up top. Haven't driven the new Comp G though which has different gearing...it may be better up top than the older style.

My GTP's far from stock, but I did a number of blasts in it before hitting the limiter at 126mph @ around 4k rpm's

My accord has been to 125mph a number of times. I've backed off from there but never hit the limiter like I did with the GTP. I believe the Accord hits 5th around 115-120mph.....at least that's where I feel it really kick in....and you can definitely feel it shift back as you coast back down the numbers.

I would not recommend trying this

yeah, I have a bad habit of not wearing my seatbelt My cruise is on and set, but I wasn't cruising at 132!!! I was actually cruising around 90mph, but on I-77 South right before Columbus, there is this strech of highway that is perfectly straight, and it just goes up and downhill, so if you are at the top of the hill, you can see everything 5 miles ahead of you, to make things even better, there are dividers (barriers) on both sides so nowhere for cops to hide (i do not have a radar detector). SO yeah, I usually have a little fun there. Just stepped on the gas without taking off the cruise to see how fast it could go

Ok, sounds legit to me.

I apologize for implying that it was done on a dyno.

Sure wish I had a stretch of road like that around here.

This pics shows the stretch a little better, but it was taken a couple months earlier and snow was on the ground

Dunno about other states, but I found out this year that the Ohio State Highway patrol actually has white cars that they bring out in the winetertime

I wish I had a dyno, though. I've been dying to get one, but the closes one that I kknow of is like 2 hours away

I have gotten to 136 mph on my 03 sedan v6. I stopped there, because i got scared and let go of the accelerlator. But at 130+, I still felt no sort of restriction. But I doubt I'd ever do this again, unless I'm on a track or something. But yeah, 130+ and it was still acceling as if going from 60-90. my 2 cents

Muscleboy - Hit the accelerator

I've never seen my '03 hesitate at 85mph. I hit 135mph before I noticed she did not want to go anymore. My parents once had 2 '94 Accords and one was definately quicker then the other. So maybe you got a slow Acc.

SWEET ASS PICTURE!!! Today I jumped to 90, maybe a little faster, I had a co-worker chasing me. If we head to work at 8:30, the traffic is clear in a few spots. but there isn't anywere around here that allows you to see cops at a distance. So I have to hit it and back off. I used to do 100 down 635 towards the airport in my GTP, but the cops from Dallas, Irving, and Coppell all monitor that strecth.

and yes, the gps was proven

this is me doing 105mph. I could have pushed it a little harder but I ran out of room. It felt good all the way thru 105, but on other days it bogs down around 90. Those are the days that I'm in the opposite lane trying to pass a group of cars. And I don't care about 'innocent' people, there are no innocent people in Texas.
