How did you guys drive during break-in period?

i just got a v6 ex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyhow, so excited.. that i drove 200 miles in 2 days.

ANyhow, my questino was.. how did you guys drive during break in?
manual says for first 600miles, drive slowly.. no above 4k rpm.. no oil change till 3750.
I also heard change the oil at 1000... and dont drive rough til 1000...

what rpm should i drive? what speed? anything I should do?

I floor it once in a while (not often) and drove it progressively up 1000 rpm every 500 km =p

just make sure that you dont drive at constant velocity in the break-in period, like on a highway. i hope you didn't hit any highways during that 200 miles.

i was always an advocate of driving it hard during the break-in. wide throttle, but keeping the revs low.

I read a website that said you're supposed to drive very hard the first 20 miles especially, and then just as hard for the next 580 miles (for 600 miles break in). Unfortunately, I found that after I had already broken in my car (did 600 miles in less than 6 days). I drove mine very slow and rarely went about 3500 RPM. As soon as I hit 600 though, I started driving it much harder, and shortly after, I got up to well over 6000 RPM.

Here is my thoughts on break in. Drive as you would drive your car like any other day. The only thing to avoid is High RPM Reving. If you drive on the freeway/highway, vary your speed. If the speed limit is 65, drive 65 for 10 minutes then drop it down to 55, then back up. Then after 600 miles, drive it regular. You can start getting in the high rpm range. I consider an engine broken in after 1,000 miles. But others will argue that the car is already broken in out of the factory or whatever. Do what you want, its basically your piece of mind.
Ohh, and dont do oil changes early especially during the break in period. Wait til its first scheduled maint.

I agree with relentless that is exactly what I have been told also drive it the way you would always drive your car no oil change for at least the first 5000 miles
