Electric Cutout

Hello I am new here. I installed an Electric cutout just past the cat. It sounds cool when it is open. I feel like I lost torque at the low end but gained in the high end. I am thinking of doing a dyno to see the difference between open and closed. Has anyone done this already?
This is what I installed along with an Injen CAI

yea, its cool and all but why after the cat? why not before? you are still being restricted by going thru the cat to the cut out

I put it after the cat so that I can have some back pressure. when you buy a freeflow exhaust system, it is normally a catback system. since I don't have a turbo, I put it after the cat.

The price for the kit is about $150. I installed the wiring, the welding done by the muffler shop was $25.

I don't want to sound dump - but for what do we need back pressure...?
Thanks for any explanation !

but really, if you have the cutout open, you're planning on racing. and when is the last time you raced someone at 2000rpms?

I feel like when I am starting from 0-60 mph with the cutout open, it is not as fast as when I have the cutout closed. I will dyno it soon so that I can get the numbers.

btw, when I am on the freeway, with the cutout open, I kick ass.

the cool thing about having this cutout, when I am in a residential neighborhood, I can close the valve and not bother anybody. I really hate it when you have people at 2 in the morning revving their engines making noise.

The trick will be to find out at which RMP the switch should be made. If you do a dyno without the valve open and then one with it closed, you can lay them on top of each other to find that point. It would be nice to hard wire something to automaticall switch it for you at that RPM to produce the best race results (without you having to worry about when to switch it.)

the problem with above is you also need to consider gearing too.. so will we see the valve open and close way too often? besides.. these things take like 1 to 2 secs to fully open and close..

Brex is write. once I get the video posted. (someone said they will host it for me) you can see that it takes about 4 seconds to open. I love seeing the looks on peoples faces when they sit next to me at the light and when I rev the engine, it is pretty quiet but 4 seconds later, they start hearing the rumble and their eyes open wide. Since the valve is directly below my seat, it sounds louder to the guy next to me than when you are using a freeflow muffler.

yeah hook it up to a tach guage with a shift light and then have the output light part power the relay to open and close the cut out valve. This way it would work automatically.

The only down side is that it would be set for the same RPM's each time.

I would be cuious to see when this mod starts to make power. My guess would be around 5K rpms' - why you ask... just a hunch.

Get some sound clips going, and get that sheet on a dyno with open and closed runs....
I wonder if after the first shift in a 1/4 mile drag you should just leave it open, for the remiander of the run since you would be high in the rpm band.

IF you mount it before the catsensors wouldn't the check engine light go bonkers for the lack of feedback on the sensor? Might even back off the fuel or just shut down because of lack of feedback?
