Custom Exhaust Qestion?

Hello, my mechanic said he could put a custom cat-back dual exhaust on my 05 accord V6 coupe using 3 inch piping. Will using 3 inch piping make me loose low end torque? A friend said it will help your high end, but you wont get as good of a launch with large piping. Is that true? Thanks for any help!

Generally speaking, yes, it will have a negative effect on your low-end torque. It hasn't necessarily been proven on the 7th Gen, but it would have that effect (as opposed to 2.25 or 2.5 inch piping). Why would you go with 3 inch instead of a smaller diameter?

Thanks for the help and i will be now going for the 2.5 inch piping. Does Anyone know how you would increase the torque on our cars? My friend just got a '05 Nissian Maxima. When you stomp down on the gas you feel it has A LOT more low end. I'm sad to say this, but whenever we race street light to street light he beats me every time. If my car had more low end torque i think we would be even. Thanks again for any help

3<2.25/2.50in soo... does that mean that 3<2.25/2.50<1.5<1.0 jk, I dunno, good question...

edit:
your friend beat you in an 05 maxima se? dang thats impressive, my aunt has an 05 SE, I drove it like I drove mine and I felt that it LAGGED a lot more its also heavier, but it must make up for it w/ the extra 1/2 liter w/ what is it 260+ HP, 240/250+torque... Also I was playin around w/ what looked like an 05 maxima coming off the freeway and off the freeway and I handed his arse to him, I only have a sedan w/ an intake... he might of had passengers but I dunno kuz his tints were dark as hell... but it woulda been okay if I got beat because he prob spent a good 35-40K on his, if I were to match that money I'd KILL him most likely

well i have personal experience racinig my friends '02 sixspeed maxima, and i lose every time i challenge him, i just have the aem v2 and grounding wires, he's got short ram intake and catback. he wins usually by at least a car and a half. dont underestimate the maxima, its one sporty ride! sorry about jacking this thread

its the 3.5 liter yo that hands it to us. if u want to compete with the maxima get the tl.

but back to original thread. a 3inch pipe will help you at the high end of our engines. reason being you are burning a lot more fuel and air and the volume of air being sucked in and emitted is larger and a larger 3" pipe helps you with that. however after a certain point the diameter gets so large that it essentially loses the effectiveness and the engine begins to act as if the air is being let out through to large a hole. so basically you want to tune your engine volume of air burnt to the max volume allowable through the exhaust pipe.

which brings me to the point why hasnt anyone designed a butterfly valve as yet that will open up at higher rpms to allow more air BOTH IN AND OUT, on both intakes and exhausts so we can run higher diameter pipes without losing out on the low end?
