^ Thanks. I did get the letter in the mail from Honda noting that my car could potentially be one affected by the power steering hose. It doesn't sound like a hose though, but in the morning when I turn, it does make a whining noise. You're probably right. I'm at ~108k by the way.

My valves do tick rather loud as well, probably in need of a valve adjustment.

The recalled hose (pressure hose) is probably not the hose causing the noise (feed hose). The noise is probably coming from the faulty o-ring on the pump feed hose that goes into the bottom of the pump, from the reservior.

Yes, that was my thinking too. If you haven't replaced it with the new o-ring that could be your problem. I replaced it on mine a year (or two) back. Took maybe a day to go away even after the new o-ring but haven't had any issues since.

That whine is air in the system leaking past the tsb'd o-ring. It's like $0.39 at the stealership, what a rip-off! Lol

Mine whines as well, but only when cold. Anything above 20 degrees it doesn't make a sound.

Did this today but had to put my old o ring back in since the new one seemed to be too big. Is that normal?

^The updated o-ring is orange, same exact size/dimensions, they gave you the wrong part. Inlet Joint O-ring (orange): P/N 91345-RDA-A01, H/C 8811010

That's if they have the new parts in which case many do not...yet. I'd replace the o-ring rather than wait for the new parts to come in.

How does it sound when you turn the steering wheel? Here is a DIY for the O ring.

Son of a b!tch...my car was running fine all this time, then this thread pops up and this morning it starts moaning again. Can't wait for the new power steering hoses to come in, hope that fixes it for good.

I repeat, the recalled hoses are not the same hoses that have the bad o-ring. One is going to the pump, and the other is going from the pump.

The recall is for a bad O-ring put on at the factory. A simple way to check and see if it has been done, the old O-ring is black, the new O-ring is red. The part at the dealership is less than a dollar and if air is getting into the system you will see what looks like the PS fluid boiling once the vehicle has been shut off. In very bad cases the air in the system has to go somewhere and the weakest link is the PS reservoir so it will begin pushing the fluid out of the top of the res. It will be something you will notice on the ground. Also it could be a bad bearing in the power steering (PS) pump. If you are losing fluid make sure you check it often, you do not want to use it with no fluid, that is serious money to fix the whole PS system. Also on the passengers side is the timing belt it has 2 bearings and a water pump. Those could be going out as well.

One way to pin point the noise, take a long screw driver or any long piece of metal and with the engine running place the tip of the screw driver on the suspected part (don't get caught in the belt or the fan blades), then place the other end against your ear and see if you can hear the noise only a lot louder, then keep moving it to different components to pin point the noise.

Thanks for the replies. When I turn, it only gets louder, like it 'revs' almost. It's only when it's really cold though, otherwise it just whirs at startup, then once it warms up it stops.

I just had my tbelt, thermostat, and water pump replaced. Didn't really notice if it got worse after the install.

My CEL keeps coming on every 2 days or too, it's really pissing me off. Gotta get the code checked.

What are the specifics on your car? Year, make, model, mileage, and who did the timing belt?

Well the problem is that I already replaced the bum o-ring with the new one. The squeaky noise was with me for about 4-5 days and today it went away. The power steering growling went away too. It was sunny after a long time so I'm guessing the belt finally dried but I can't say why that would also affect the power steering pump and air getting in the system.

2006 Accord V6-6 with 108K and rising, just under 2K per month or so. A friend of a friend did it, but he is a mechanic.

my car did the power steering noise problem like at 140k miles, we replaced the power steering pump like 2 times before another shop found it was the high pressure hose, i would rec just going and getting the warranty done and see what happens. the noise would stop for a while then come back untill the leaking high pressure hose was fixxed after that it all went away. other wise it just sounds like a bad pulley in your accessory belt

Yea it whines when the wheel is turned as well. It's embarrassing lol.

Also, I'm thinking the ticking could be from my injectors...I believe the sound is coming more from underneath the intake manifold than the valve cover(s).

If it is whining when its turned it's definitely the O-ring. I had it replaced and it was the best $1.00 I spent!
