dark color inside valve cover

Pulled the intake and valve covers yesterday to check and set my valves. First thing I noticed was the the front valve train and inside of the front valve cover was a much darker brownish color than the rear valve train. I am a die hard at changing oil, fully syn, every 3000 miles. Previous owner, all Honda dealer maintained. Does this have anything to do with the egr? I've never seen this before on a engine. Absolutely no sludge build up, clean inside, just a reddy-brown hue to everything..... ????

Have spent 35 years in the auto and truck repair industry. Seen a lot of premature failure of engines due to poor maintenance. I practice what I preach. I change/flush all fluids (brake, coolant, power steering and trans ) every 2 years. Engine oil every 3 months/3000 miles. Accord trans gets a drain and refill every year. To some, I over-maintain, but reliability is key to me. As I do all of my own repairs, my overall maintenance costs are lower than most.
Take care of your equipment, it will take care of you.
