Clear coat my wheels?

I recently purchased some wheels. (Sparco Assetto Gara's) When I got them, I found out that they're kind of a rough texture and dirt and tar stick to them very easily. If I really spend the time and scrub them for 20 mins it cleans them up. I'm just looking into this for convenience and to make my wheels last. I didn't have a lot of money to spend on wheels at the time so this kinda came back and bit me in the @$$.

Anyways, I was wondering if I would be able to spray a clear coat on them? Will it work or is it just a waste of time? Has anyone ever done this before?

Thanks for any input

Ben

I wouldnt spray clear coat on them just because its in a Spray form and its just a hassle to get even coverage.

A better solution is to get Optimum Opti Coat 2.0, you can add that to your paint as well. It comes in a syringe and you apply it as you would with a sealant. Scott Wax will give you a better insight as he has more experience with Optimum products than I. Its permanent too, so if your going to Opti Coat your wheels, make sure they are clean & free from defects.

Opti-Coat works very well on wheels. Also, stay away from harsh wheel cleaners, they make the problem worse by using strong chemicals to remove brake dust and dirt and over time can break down the finish of the wheels. If you clean the wheels regularly, you should never need anything more than Optimum No Rinse (if you use it) or whatever car wash soap you choose to use.

I always just use a soft sponge to wash them with regular car wash soap. I kept up with them in the summer but this cold New England weather is making it hard to wash them. I'm trying to find some winter tires so I get them off and give them a good cleaning so I can get this opti-coat stuff on them.
