19s with 225/40-19 tires?

Has anyone used this size? Tirerack recommends it, but everyone gets a 35 series tire. I just thought the 40 series sidewall would give a little more protection.

Ummm I wouldn't recommend that size simply b/c you might rub. I would recommend 235/35/19. If you dont plan to drop it then it would be fine, but if you plan to drop it I woudln't recommend 225/40/19. 225 are too skinny for most 19s anyway.

yes go with 35 series. and about it being too skinny...that depends. if its 19 x 7 then 225 will be fine but if its 19 x 7.5, go with 235

Plus, the width-to-height ratio will make your combination look funny if you go with a 225. At least a 235 would make your wheel/tire set look a little better.

Good point Andrew, I didn't think about sidewall protection.

u wont rub with 225/40..its going with a smaller width tire...so if it can fit 235...then 225 will be ok....even with a 40 sidewall.

but i do agrree go with 235....225 looks too thin on 19s.

Then if you had 19"x8.5", would you go with 245/35/19?
or still stick with 235?
