how wide is too wide?

im considering picking up some enkei j-10's (18x7.5) but the tires seem huge. they're 255/40R-18. Is 255 way too wide for an 03 accord coupe 6spd?

ive ran some searches, but nobody seems to be running 255's

I drag race on 255 wide tires and I have less than a 2 inch drop up front "eibach sportline springs".
I would not recommend going that wide on 7.5 width rims.
If you look up specs on tires I belive the min rim width for that kind of tire would be 8.5 inches.

True, you can not safely put a 255 tire on a 7.5 inch wide rim. 235 is the maximum for a 7.5 wheel.

and i was always told ,at least as a good idea if you go one size wider you should make the profile one size smaller. does that sounds right? one size deviance is alright, that big you might run into problems

I thought 235 was the widest that would fit a 7 inch wide rim, and 245 for 7.5?

I had 235's on my stockers with no problems, but I backed down to 225's.

It all depends on rim diameter it sound like you are talking about 17 inch rims and we started on 18 inch rims.

you can fit a 235 on a 17x7 but I would not reccomend a 235 on a 18x7.

I cant stand the 225/50/17's on my 17x7 wheels... the ride is comfortable but when taking turns it feels like a freakin boat now... Unless the sidewalls are extremely stiff I would not recommend 255 on a 18x7.5 even with the 40 sidewall... if its a good enough deal, get them and sell the tires if you dont like them.

i ended up passing on the deal because i was sure to run into some sort of problems and didnt want to have to deal with getting new 225's down the line.

im glad it worked out the way it did, i've got some plans in the works that involve a supercup kit and 225/40/18's
