Transmission Swaps

What have people done as far as transmission work in order to build up a 7th gen? I heard a stock GSR transmission can take around 500hp/tq and would love to put one in, but I highly doubt it'd fit. Any ideas?

Is your car an auto or 6 speed? If an auto, just doing the J trans 6 speed can be quite pricey based on everything needed.

If you already have a 6 speed manual, I would fortify it rather than look at different transmission options. The B/D/H won't work on the J due to the opposite side mounting. You could use a K series, but it's not a bolt on affair - it requires custom adapter bracket, custom mount, bellhousing modification, and also custom starter. Not really worth the effort unless you have the transmission lying around and have the ability to do it yourself.

With that being said, I think the K series clutch and flywheel on the J engine with the J transmission is a viable option, with minor changes needed for functionality.

It's an auto... how much would a 6 speed cost? And how much power can it take?

better trade in an get a 6spd. Probably 2-3k on top of what your trade in is. You also get the benefit of being able to use hondata.

As far as how much power the tranney can take probably 450 range. Seen a bunch of TL and jswap guys chew up 3-4 gear. Straight cut gears would probably help with that.

Level 10 torque converter, external cooler, custom fluid, new filter, external fluid filter, new switches. Or trade for a manual. Auto is tragically bad.

Doing it yourself - ballpark around 2500 - 3500 for parts depending on what you find.

With labor - I'd guess total would be in the 5000 - 6000 range, again depending on what kind of deal you find.

Oh **** you from my hood!

Level 10 has been heard as off and on, but it is the only option if I want grip off the line at more than 1500 rpm.
That said, the price on that 6 speed is great, although it is a salvage title the fact that it has nearly 0 miles on it may outweigh the cost if you insure it right.

That's odd because we don't exactly get floods here... Unless the interior caught on fire i can't imagine what would require that be replaced and the source of a totalled car.
