Belts dont make sense

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this for some reason. On the J30A4 motor the WP is driven by the timing belt which is run off of the CS sprocket behind the CS pulley. So why is it that when I run my car with no drive belt (serpentine belt) it starts to overheat? It should have no effect on the cooling system at all. The cooling fans are electric and none of the drive belt components are related to the cooling system. PS, Alt/Gen, Tensioner & Idler, CS, and A/C. Am I missing something? Do I have a unicorn on my hands? WTF?

Does the problem go away when you replace the serpentine belt? Does coolant circulate when you turn the engine on? I just redid my timing belt and water pump with no issues. Did you replace any gaskets?

Perhaps I should clarify. There is no problem with my car or the cooling system, no overheating, etc and all parts are new. But when I do diagnostics and remove the drive belt to check for squealing or if one shreds (only happened once and it was bc I was stupid in reassembly) the temp gauge begins to rise past the usual spot and goes to almost full hot. It isn't a problem so much as a question. But I do appreciate the concern and help.

Could have to do with the alternator not making any power when the belt is off.
