how do you know its fully broken in? the manual said break in period is 600 miles so do you think i'm on a safe side now to drive 75 mph or more? or should i just wait 1000 miles to drive over 70.

one time i thought i was going only 25 mph but i was actually doing 45-50 mph. i was like oh s**t.

Folks, other than WOT starts and panic stops, you can drive your car to 80 mph since mile 1. I'd wait for WOT until 600 miles, but even before that is not going to hurt the engine at all. In case you didn't know, ALL engines are run at WOT for a period of time before going into your car. If that was the case, demo cars would go to the crusher rather than being sold. They go thru hell, and many times with a cold engine, which is the worst you can do.

Hey, I have a question for the adventurous kind: what's the top speed of the Accord? I'm pretty sure it's limited to 130 or so, but want proof < he he>. My car is limited to 160, but gets there in a hurry (in 5th) . Later.

I never really liked the look of the new coupe, but after seeing your shinny ride, I may change my opinion....

It looks awesome!

EDIT: I forgot, but you need to take your front plate off!!

i can't take the front place off because i'm afraid i might get a fix it ticket by the cops. its illegal down in cali.

wow i never knew i can go 70+ without breaking the motor. it thought it was more precautious in the long run. guess i won't be driving like a granny anymore.

I'm in SoCal, too.

Orange County to be exact.

you want the springs to settle in first or you can possibly damage your car in the long run.

As for the plates, just take them off. The most harm they'll do to you is a $25 dollar fine. But then again if they pull you over, make a lame excuse like there were no front plates mounted when you bought the car (since it is new).

hahhaa i don't want to risk that. $25 can buy me a half tank of gas. i don't want to attract attention from cops.

No offense, but that's the most absurd excuse I've ever heard. Maybe you understood wrong, and it was 'rings'; that makes more sense.
At any rate, you can drive any modern car normally since you leave the dealership; no need to baby it at all, but don't abuse it either. And 80 mph is normal in most freeways nowadays. Besides, it's only a tick above 2K rpms on these cars, and the engine is barely breaking a sweat.
What you don't want is too much pressure in the combustion chamber, and that's avoided by WOT and/or high revs, but even that is debatable on modern engines. Oh, and with manuals, you should NEVER lug your engine. Later.

sorry, I hope you didnt mean springs as in suspension. Let me clarify in general better, you want everything in your engine to settle before you start to go WOT.

Rings as in piston rings Kiet. It's really more so that the valves seat properly.... But if they don't seat within the fist couple miles they wont ever. You are good from the dealer. Just don't abuse it before the break in period. I bounced my tach off the rev limiter in my STi right off the lot. Never any problems.

And ELP... ditch the attitude. You can explain without being arrogant. Especially towards my moderators.

No attitude here. And I wasn't arrogant either. Confrontational? Maybe, but that was due to the assertiveness of his statement without being true the way I read it, that's all. I'm cool with the guy.
