making 8th gen LED tail lights!!!

Hey all. I'm making some LED tails for my 7th gen accord coupe now, but i'm thinking of getting some 8th gen tail lights and making some with those and selling them. I was just seeing who would be interested in buying them if i started making them. I want to start doing this on the side. You can follow the link for my current project here....http://www.v6performance.net/forums/...d.php?t=199046

Just kind of doing a feeler now, seeing who would be interested. Thanks.

Well, it would all depend on how many led's are involved, and how you would want it. I use philips superflux led's which come stock in almost every led equipped car. It would probably range between 250-350. depending on the configuration. If i was given tail lights, that would be about 100 bucks knocked off that price because i wouldn't need to buy tails. Also, if you sent me your oem's like a deposit type deal.

Sorry for my ****ty editting skills LOL

So if I sent you some tailights and you did something like this

The black would be tailight bulbs and the yellow turn signal with the tailights able to light up brighter for braking. I know how to make plastic molds, so I would make a clear housing so you could use yellow flashing leds and red lighting up leds. Kindve like a Euro tailight. Would that work? And how much would it be for you to do that. I counted 120 tailight/brake leds and 41 turn signal. of course thats just a rough guess from what I mocked up.

Yeah, that could definately be done. Now for the lenses, that you are talking about, it would be pure clear lenses?? Are you sure you would like that? Because if i just put the amber led's right in under the red, i'm sure they would definately show up much brighter then the reds... or what i could or you could do, is get the red lense paint, and paint the inside of the lenses where it is going to be red, and leave the amber section clear as well as the reverse lights. That would be a pretty cool idea. And as far as the leds, i would charge $1.50 per led for the cost, mounting, wiring and resistors all included in that $1.50 dollar fee. Also if you are going to have seperate turn signal lights and brake lights, i would have to make 1 PWM and voltage regulator for each side, and they are $15 each, so if you sent me your tails and however much it costs for return shipping, and about $241.00 for the labor of leds and $30 for both PWM/V reg's , and since you are my first customer, i would give you and deal and do it for about $250 for the whole job Since you want both upper and lower sections done, and you want led's all the way to the end of the tail, i will have to do some heavy modifications..but i'd be up for the challenge

I think the most important thing you should be worried about now is a finished product.

Your progress pictures show that you have some soldering skills, but only finished pictures of a product that works dependably will show that you have the time, and money to finish a project from start to finish.

Its the reason I was(am) hesitant to make LED gauges for people. It took me three different tries, with different led/resistor combinations to get even lighting, but more importantly a setup that will last for years.

Nice progress on the 7th gen btw

Thanks, but i already made some previously for someone else, and they are working great. I am an engineering student almost complete, so i study this stuff everyday and this is what i work with everyday, so my ideas are based off of working professionals and skilled calculation. As for the time scale, it will be different with someone elses product. It will be first priority for me before everything. It's basically a job for me. My lights didn't have to be completed so i took my time on them. I have done 2 sets now and bunch of hid retrofits as well, so my designing of the tail light will be practical and very functional so that there will not be any issues down the road. If there is issues, then i will gladly resolve them. Thank you for the concern for this user. I appreciate the input.

I really like that idea. I'll get to making a mold for the lense and make a lense and see how it turns out. If not I can just get the 2 rows(upper and lower) that are dotted black done. The top can be the turn signal and the lower can be brake while both can be running lights. Thanks for the ideas and tackling this.

Yep. No problem. You know, you could still do the amber led's under the red and it would still appear amber compared to the rest of them. Then, the upper and lower sections could be the running lights and brake lights like originally planned.

i think what u should do is order a tailight, then make ur first one, then sell that one and post it as an example...

after seeing example, people will def buy it... because many people love to see things before they buy,

u should also post some design pix of how some custom will look like and stuff... u get what i mean,

glw the sales man...

+1 I'm a member of HID planet and there are tons of people who think they are really good with LED's but so what, many of them however never produce a finished product

The most important things are

a) a finished product
b) a product that can last without having LED burn out

So far All we've seen are "prototype" pics

any progress on the LED tail lights configuration? Is it possible to do the 8th gen sedan as well? I'm interested in a different design other than the Eagle Eye LED tails offered on the market now.
