by cheapest valentine i think you mean only valentine. they also only sell directly from v1 so you cant find a cheaper price anywhere. personally, i have a 8500 and i have never regretted getting that over a v1. all the reviews ive read rate the v1 and 8500 as basically the same in detection but the v1 has the arrows. who gives a **** about the arrows. if i get an alert no matter where its coming from im gunna slow down. i have used a v1 before and i dont miss the arrows at all, completely worthless if you ask me. also, i have a bunch of friends already with the 9500 and they love it. it can tell you your exact speed (using its gps) it can learn places where speed traps occur often as well as learn where false alarms occur often. by far the best radar. after like 3 months of use my friends only dislike about the radar, and all 3 of them agree this is its only flaw, is that they all have systems and sometimes the speaker isnt loud enough in the radar. if you have that problem, just get a external speaker from passport, itll be loud enough since its made for bikers to hear at high speeds through their helmets

I've only used V1s and cheap radar detectors in my car. About the arrows...that's personal preference...I also take my foot off the pedal as soon as that thing chirps as I look up to see what band I'm getting. If it's Ka and it's ahead of me then I'll hit the brakes. If it's Ka and next to me or behind me...I'll take a quick look around to see if I can find the source.

Really the arrows are there to help you ID the source to figure out if it's false or not. But I do agree with you on the point that you reduce speed no matter what when you hear it go off. This just helps me determine quickly if it's a false alarm or not, so personally I like the arrows.

Klepto...I got my V1 all said and done for $325. I bought it used from this dousche bag who told me it worked perfectly...but it didn't. I got it from him for $280 and then I got it repaired by Valentine for $45. If you buy the V1 used...make sure you meet in a parking lot of a Wal-Mart or something where there are automatic doors...plug it in and make sure it goes off.

I don't speed like crazy and weave in and out of spaces ALMOST big enough for my car...but I don't drive speed limit if the amount of traffic allows me to go faster. The radar detector is just to watch my back.

I had a passport 8500 but it was used and flawed I think so I didn't keep it in my car all the time. If you end up getting it new, I think it would be much better.

I downgraded a bit and got a beltronics 940i. While not as sophisticated as the escorts and valentines, it does the job very well with few falses. It gives me plenty of time to slow down

"Ka band... chirp chirp chirp!"

Around my neck of the woods cops stopped pressin on speed traps, only because now they use speed cameras now. These things are no joke, my pops got a ticket from one of these peices of chet. Aside from the fact that every other speed limit sign theres a small attachment claimin "photo enforced" so u cant even go fast anymore in fear of that nice snapshot of your ass.

Do any of these radars detect these? I could care less of a a-hole cop camera happy but havin a ticket sent to my house for goin over 5-10mph makes me even madder.

Im tired of goin slow, i want to go fast again............

your radar detector should alert you of those speed cameras too. they're designed to only take pictures of speeding cars...thus they use radar as well. they're similar to those speed signs that say "Your Speed is:"...only it's set to take a picture a certain amount of time after it clocks you.

9500i ftw, valentine one's are very good detectors with the arrows and what not but the 9500i has features the valentine doesn't with a minimal difference in range. NO more false alarms!!

I got my V1 back from repair this morning and already I've learned to ignore alerts that I know are false. For example when I'm driving through the Wal-mart parking lot...I know there's no cop with his radar out...and I know that even if there was one...I'm not going fast enough to get a ticket.
