canon 20d. its a notch up from the existing 10d, but 1 down from the 1d mark2 and 2 down from 1ds. 8.2 mega pixel full digital SLR. its going to retail for about 1500 body only no lense. it isn't out yet, release date is rumored for the end of september, but even then, it'll be sold out at most stores and probably won't be available to buy either online or in a store until at least october/november. there's wait lists and preordering at a lot of websites...

the canon rebel t2 is a 35mm SLR camera.. the eos digital rebel, 20d, 10d, and 1d mark2, 1ds are all digital SLR.

eos digital rebel runs for little under 1g, the 10d is about 1100, 20d is about 1500, 1d mark2 is about 4g, and the 1ds is about 7g

the eos digital is a sufficient camera, unless you're a hardcore photographer, the rebel gets the job done. I have a few images i took with the rebel and the quality on it is awesome. but me being the hardcore photographer (who is willing to spend 1500 on a camera and not on my car ) i wanted more.. haha how greedy does that sound.... MORE MORE MORE

thanks for the pics kristine... they are all awesome. Its good to see that there are more people interested in photography and video other than me.

and god bless the person who decided to use SLR for a digital camera.

so why are you into cameras so much? personal hobby? or are you a professional photographer? I personally am more into video... but that doesnt mean I cant have a nice digital camera right? I already have a 2000 dollar minolta... but I dont want to always have to pay to develop picstures just to see them.

agreed. I actually do it as a personal hobby which i one day want to branch off and do something professional with it.. magazine photo shoot (cars only though ), weddings etc.. started with high school. needed an elective so i took photo just for the heck of it.. eventually i got into it but not hardcore.. then my bf (best friend and not boyfriend lol) was really into it and i went on a couple of freelance shoots with her and then i got really into it.... but i'm more of a scenic, architecture, cars, night, lights type of person. My friend on the other hand was very good with people, objects like apples watches, flowers.. everyone has an eye for something and mines was in sharp lines... about 99% of my pictures will never have people in it.. and if it does, its one of those silhouette type or the ones where the person isn't looking directly at the camera..

haha. i hope so... i'm really picky about what i'd photograph.. only euros, exotics, or nice clean imports... no ff/2f2f stuff.. sorry... different strokes for different folks and those kinds of "fixed" up cars don't tickle my fancy

Awsome pics Kristine I would love to upgrade to a 20d myself, but I've decided to stick with my Rebel and get more lenses instead

Glad there are more photo enthusiasts on this site

So Abe, what got you to decide to get a Rebel

Thanks, glad I helped convince you to come to the dark side

If you wanna buy online buydig.com is a good site and has good prices, and best of all it's NOT in NY, so no tax and luckily shipping could be free with that item.

http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.a...u=CNDIGRBL1855

If I see a better price from a reputable shop I'll let you know

i've had a friend buy from Butterflyphoto.com and she got free shipping and no tax. not sure if there's tax for NY people...

i was thinkin of a sony dsc f828 for a really long time and i was close to getting one, but i've always been a canon person for digi cams. not only that, but i didn't like the way the sony felt in my hands.. ergonomics was a bit funky for my liking.. whether its point and shoot or full digi slr, i'll probably always stick to a canon camera of some sort over any sony...

hey Krisitine and Francis... since you two already owned the camera... what do you guys think about the lens that comes witht the kit (the 15-80mm canon one)... should I get a deal with that? or should I get the body only and buy a larger lens?

I see some deals for around 800 on ebay with a new camera, sigm 70-300/800 lens, compact flash, bag, stand, smart card reader, some extra uv filters... which is pretty good. But do you think I should stick with the canon lens? I rarely take up close shots so a 15mm would be useless to me.

and kristine... dont get sony, simple as that. hehe

no seriously, sony has one of the worst noise rates at night time for any digital camera I have used... so if you take alot of night time shots... then they will be nothing compared to a canon (its really a night and day difference). The only good thing about sony is that if you take alot of pics of things like flowers, scenic areas... it really does some great jobs with greens and red (typical flower/garden colors)... but other than that.. its horrible with other shades such as blue (canon really does a much better job processing that color.... for sony's they come out all a ****** yellow or a white.

It has become the Kristine gallery in here

Abe to answer your question, it's the other way around with the focal lengths. 15mm would be a super wide angle, good for landscape photography (that's what I like). If you were to take close up of things you would get a macro capable lens, basically something that can be a few inches from your object.

If you wanna do sports or action photography then you would get something like a 70-200mm or if you like to spy on people a 600mm (lol a 600mm lens costs like $5g's)

As for the 18-55 kit lens, its a great starter lens and it's decently wide. I would get it the kit cause it's worth the extra $100 or so. Start on that lens and get an idea on what you like to photograph, after a month or so you'll figure out what you like to do. Eventually you'll want to add more lenses to your arsenal to cover other ranges for different types of photos. Then you'll want Canon L lense, that's a whole other story

Best thing to do is buy it and shoot everything and anything. Once you learn things like exposure, depth of field, etc you'll even be up to shooting manually (pic your shutter speed & aperture)

There's a nice illustration on different focal lengths on canon's site, but I can't fidn it right now, I'll post it when I do.

A nice place to read reviews and has a decent forum is www.dpreview.com
www.fredmiranda.com is also a decent forum
