For Sale: Windows Vista Ultimate 32 and 64 bit OEM

Hey all,

I got this as part of a package deal but had already purchased vista for my pc so i do not need this

I have 2 dvds, one is 64 bit oem and the other is 32 bit oem...each have their own product keys that have never been used

I'm looking for around 250 shipped each, but will entertain any offers...If you want both ill sell it for 450 shipped. Keep in mind that the cd keys will work on either one so if you wanted 2 64 bit versions u can use both of these keys.

Now on ebay

if you got this from the intel package, the keys are actually retail so they're worth a bit more than oem

Retail and OEM doesn't make much difference does it? The extra cost of the retail is just the accessories that comes with it. Such as packaging, manual etc. But for the functionality and then copyrights is the same for both retail and OEM. It works the same way with hardware also.

Retail means you can install it on any one machine at any given time, it's not tied to your current setup like oem. If you plan on doing any significant upgrades it would be a good idea to consider the retail version.

After doing some further research, I have discovered a few things...

1. OEM version is for system builders, which cannot be sold online unless you are a certified reseller of OEM software, such as newegg, etc. So ebay auctions are usually out of the question.
2. OEM Windows is the same as Retail windows. They both limit the number of system configurations that you have per install. If you go over the max number of configuration, you will have to call microsoft to activate your windows key.
While the retail forces you to call, the OEM restricts you to a certain set of base configurations. With some limited expansion capability and leeway.

OEM - can only be installed on one computer, if that computer dies, the license dies with it
retail- can be installed on one computer, however if that computer dies, you can install it onto another computer, legally. Also with retail you can use microsoft's extra license program where if you pay an extra 50 bucks, you can add another computer onto your license, oem you can't do that.

You can install OEM versions on several systems/hardware setups. I've owned many versions of xp, and vista OEM and never had problems updating system components(ex. MB, CPU...) Just as recent last week I changed out my MB and CPU and did a fresh install of Vista OEM, just had to call the 800 # and PRESTO.

As I said, LEGALLY if you had retail you can install it on another computer if the other one dies. With OEM, it has to be installed on that same computer, so let's say your mobo dies, well if you replace it with the same one, yes you can get it reactivated, legally. If you upgrade your MB & CPU, sure you can still call the 1800 number and if you say the right things, they'll activate, however it's not legal. Every system builder knows that when you call the 1800 number and if you say the right things they'll activate you. Wheather or not it's legal is a whole different story.

well one trick for the OEM is that, according to the users at tomshardware.com, the OEM OS is tied to the Motherboard only. So if you can get the top of the line most advanced Mobo, you should be ok for a while.
