oh forgot to mention... some ppl have been saying u can get a new one for $399 and unlocking is free. there ARE programs called ANYSIM or IUNLOCKRELOADED. but these programs pretty much run on script via SSH. i used this program on FIVE different iphones and FOUR of them crashed, and ONE ended up working.

obviously learning my lesson, i decided to do all unlocking manually, typing in each command separately. in fact, i've been unlocking before any of these programs come out.

all i'm saying is that these programs are very buggy. $399 +tax comes out to about $432 (in California) for the 4GB iphone. if you want to invest $400 on a phone and are confident enough to tinker with it, knowing that one simple mistake can break it, then go ahead. these "free" programs come with disclaimers saying that they're not responsible if it jacks up your phone. i'm sure in the future there'll be a program without any bugs.
i've unlocked hundreds of phones. ppl on craigslist who don't know what they're doing will probably charge you anywhere from $25-70 to unlock your phone.

be careful with ebay too. alot of ppl are selling refurbished iphones saying they're new. this isn't ebay. it's a car forum. i'm not gonna risk my reputation by selling f**ked up phones to fellow car enthusiasts.

i've taken the risk of already of using free programs, don't make the same mistake and blow $400 you could've spent on some nice car parts haha.

Don't unlock...activate O:-) I need my commissions!

iPhone volume in the speakerphone is subpar, but it is more than capable in the earpieces...

Within the next few weeks Apple will be releasing a patch to fix some software issues, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they will be eliminating the unlock that you're paying the premium for. (They get an average of $8/mo/active iPhone on ATT.)

Sorry to hijack the thread with the bad news, but let's just be honest with your potential buyers...

i feel like i've been nothing BUT honest.

i don't see anything on my thread that proves otherwise =)

just to mention, you can't "eliminate" unlocked phones unless they have your sim card number.

only recently, many ppl have been unlocking phones so now at apple (correct me if i'm wrong k.heiner), if you buy 2 or more phones they make you sign a contract agreeing you won't unlock yada yada.

i bought mine before these contracts ever came out, so they can't "eliminate" the phone service you'll have on your iphones because they won't know the ID attached to your phone.

this is all technical talk, but i agree with you 100%. to be honest.

i've sold out all my 4GB phones~ with all that said,

if you want AT&T then go to k.heiner. hahah.

if you want anything else but still want an 8GB iphone, pm me.

the problem now is that anyone who has updated to 1.1.1 (firmware) or bought a new one that has that version, is unable to unlock it. (as of right now, but I am sure that will change soon).

Haha! It's so strange how they'll go over the top sometimes for a commissionable sale.

Sorry had to laugh.

Now these iPhones might be of value since you won't be sure what iPhone version you'll be getting when you pick one up from the store. Best of luck with the sale.

it's version 1.1.1 right now, and you wont be waiting too long until it is cracked. there seems to be a couple ways around what was locked down, like a buffer overrun problem in safari, so dont lose hope.
