Yeah Its stupid. Its 3am and this just came up in my mind while we were having discussion about dyno in bmw board.

Can you do a reverse gear dyno? Is it possible?

i don't see why you couldn't, although i dont know what it would do though. aren't you suppose to run a dyno in 3rd gear? so, wouldn't reverse be entirely to low of a gear?

^^ yeah, you could run it, but the gear ratio would be entirely too low, and your car would seem like it had like 3x the power haha. but physically running it on the dyno? sure, why not

this is from memory, a bad one, so it's probably all assbackwards.

Torque = HP x RPM / 5252

backwards ^^ haha

hp = tq * rpm / 5252

or tq = hp*5252/rpm

the dyno will correct for the gear ratio. i'm not sure if chassis dynos are setup for bi-directional operation though. you would see lower numbers than usual though due to higher drivetrain losses, and also higher inertial parasitics. the other thing is, some cars won't allow WOT or revs over a certain amount in reverse either.

so not sure what the point would be.

Racing in reverse would be awesome. NOT.

I remember samir's video. that crazy mofo went so fast in reverse.
I want to challenge him in reverse racing.

steve, as for the point, I honestly have no friggin idea why I asked this yesterday.
time for prescription pills.
