3800 to 3.8 swap

Hi, I have a 1995 buick lesabre with 3800 (rod knocking).I also have 1988 olds ciera with buick 3.8 buick (bad fuel pump).I would like to know if basic short blocks are same. I would like to replace 3800 with the 3.8 and use 3800 exterior engine parts on 3.8.Is this possible?Please help: Earnhardt fan

you might want to check with smog laws in your area too. here in california, if you do a motor swap, the motor has to be the same year or newer than the car you are moving it to for cars post 1972.

there aren't any 3800 tech heads here that I know of, but definitely give www.clubgp.com a try.

Is that cierra front drive? I thought the 3.8 was in rear drive platforms, like the V6 camaros and firebirds, and the 3300 and 3800 (these 2 are interchangable) were for front drive platforms, cause my '90 cierra was front drive with a 3300. I've heard that the 3.8 and 3xxx series are very different, not even sharing the same block angle (3.8 is 60, 3xxx is 90).

3800 is both engines (85% sure)

both gm made so im pretty sure there both interchangable
