the way I do it is desurating the car, selecting all the body i want colored, new layer, color, make that layer Overlay, then mess with the brightness and contrast on on the desaturated layer.

someone please correct me if there's an easier way...

you need more contrast on the paint, because according to that original pic, you should have had more of a shine than that, you can only play with the contrast a tiny bit otherwise it will start to look really wierd, ive never tried slimtwigmj's idea tho, give it a shot, practice makes perfect.
