Shenaniganz08 The tape you are using now is not industrial strength (grey colored).

You really shouldn't even have to layer it. The industrial strength stuff is pretty strong. Yes you can layer it but you really don't have to.

Make sure to clean the area that you are going to be using the tape with Goo-be-gone to remove any old adhesive and then wipe everything down with Rubbing alcohol.

It doesn't matter how strong the tape is, if you don't prep the area correctly it will start to peel.

You can find this stuff at any Pepboys/Autozone.
I've seen it at the stores. Do you think it will hold if its layered like in the picture I posted? Since I dont have those plastic spacer strips from the original tape

Bursaliozer ohh ok, didnt realize that was the rear lip.
If you arent going to ever take that lip off then maybe look for a more permanent solution in the form of epoxy?
June 9th, 2013 11:23 PM
mc1114 The front lip is fine, almost flush with the bumper. The rear lip is the problem

It doesnt bother me terribly. I wanted it to look better, but I can live with the gap. Its not noticeable from far. I dont think the gap will get bigger. The rear lip is somewhat curved on the top edge, so the thin double sided tape is ineffective

phunctional - That looks like thin tape, unfortunately.

Bursaliozer When i placed my lip on the car there were gaps on both sides. At first i was like WTF!? This is OEM, it should fit perfect?
What i had to do was pull the lip towards me from the middle which eliminated the gaps on the sides and my brother pressed it in place (both sides) then while still pulling on the lip he did the spots under the fog lights and finally the middle part where i was pulling on. It fits and looks great.
Maybe you need to try it like how i did it.

phunctional 3M 4466 Double Sided Foam Tape | StaplesĀ® ?
June 8th, 2013 10:20 PM
mc1114 That would explain why I cant find any really thick tape

I guess I should not have thrown away the old strips. Could have reused them with new tape

I guess I'll live with it
June 8th, 2013 10:11 PM
tommastie The oem 3m has a layer of plastic in between the 3m to make the thickness to it for better contact.
June 8th, 2013 09:23 PM
mc1114 Dealer didnt have it

The 3M tape in the link is the stuff readily available at every hardware store, which I have already tried. The original "tape" or strips are about 1/4" to 1/2" thick. That 3M tape is too thin, which is why I had to use layers, and thats why its coming off

I'm not talking about width, I'm talking about thickness. Here you can see the gap that I need to fix and the tape coming off

Vutang1 You can pick up the 3m adhesive tape from Home Depot around the paint section. It is 1" wide compare to the 1/4 wide which is on the hfp kit. The two tape share the same thickness, but the 1" wide provided more contact for me. I have purchase some recently 2 weeks ago for 5.00 + tax. It is called 3M 4011 outdoor mounting tape #S-17641. Here is a link from Uline website. Check it out and see if this works.

mc1114 I'll ask next time I need to go there for something

Don't know why this stuff is so hard to find

Bursaliozer dealer?
May 14th, 2013 11:46 PM
mc1114 I don't think that's it. The stuff I'm talking about is pretty thick and it feels like rubber with adhesive on both sides. I have only been able to find the thin 3M automotive tape

Pretty sure I saw a post recently where someone posted a pic of it, but now I can't find it

Adhesive tape for HFP kit

Anyone know where I'd be able to find the thick double sided tape that comes attached to the body kit? I recently installed the kit on my current car that I removed from my previous one. Since I couldn't reuse the original tape, I had to buy the thin stuff and ended up layering it. However, some parts on the rear lip are separating from the bumper. I'm thinking of redoing it, and have not been able to find the type of tape that comes with the lips.
