Galant GTS

O.K. I know, I know! It's not the best car in the world, but after everything I been through, I purchased a Galant GTS. The price was just to hard to pass on and was really the only car I could afford. I liked the Mazda 6 and Altima 3.5 but they were out of my price range. Still, the GTS compares well with the other cars especially in the acceleration and handling areas. It handles very very good for a big 3650 lb car. I also like the smooth ride and the car is fairly quiet for the exception of the engine when under moderate to full acceleration, but it's a nice sporty sound. The Accord is more quiet and the ride more refined, but not by much. The interior and materials used are good but it has some cheap elements to it. The one thing I don't like is the cloth liner for the roof interior, it tends to sag over time, like what happened on my first gen Eclipse as it seems to be the same material. If Mitsubishi took the time and spent a little more money, they could have made it much better. I'd like to see more in the aftermarket for this car as there is nothing out yet. I suppose when they come out with the 3.8 liter Eclipse, some of the aftermarket parts can be utilized with the GTS, seeing as the aftermarket has always been very good with the Eclipse. The weight of the car is another negative, I understand the car has more room then the previous model, but that much weight takes away from the acceleration and handling the car could have. It is lacking some of the refinement and features of the other cars, but I consider it a trade off for the $22,500 out the door price I paid. If anyone knows of any aftermarket projects or parts for this car I would appreciate some information. Overall I am pleased with this car, and while some of the negative reviews might have detered people from buying the Galant. Reviews from Edmunds and Motortrend seemed to be fairly accurate and persuaded me enough to take it for a test drive. Well, add one more in the V6 category. Misubishi V6, that is!

So you traded in your Accord for the GTS? I'm not to found of Mitsubishiís but thatís a good deal for a GTS. Congrats

BTW: The GTS is mainly heaver than your AV6 because of the cast iron V6 it has under the hood.

I went from the Accord to leasing the RX8 6 M.T. to the Galant GTS. I hurt my back and left leg (sciatica) and could no longer drive the manual and had someone assume the lease, very painful! So for putting no money down, I was able to squeek into the GTS.

Congrats on the new ride Now, get that thing to the track so we can see how fast the new Galants are

There are no performance mods available that I know of, but you can always make your own. A DIY intake probably wouldn't be too hard

id say buy some 3.0 headers for the eclipse... some long tube headers can gain 40+whp on those cars (thats an omfgwtf moment, no doubt), but the 3.8 has a taller deck height so you'd have to cut em up and modify em.

I was away for awhile, sorry. Good one about the cast iron block! Anyway, performance for all these cars are pretty close. One isn't going to leave the other that much behind, no matter who's driving! What's important, is that I was able to get a decent car at a very good price, in which to get me and my family around in relative comfort. The performance is a nice option. Thanks for the info about the performance parts and headers, Vigo & TH23. Where in the RPM band will the power be? A smooth linear increase throughout the RPM band would be nice, but headers usually increase top end power at the sacrafice of low end, or am I wrong. Anyway a 40 H.P. increase is huge no matter where it is! What would be nice is a piggyback tuned system utilizing and air intake, exhaust, headers, ect. for a nice gain, similar to what is used with the beautiful Mazda 6. I think the Mazda uses only a C.A. intake though.

just been on a 400 mile round trip to Disney World with the kids and it's been great, Zero problems so far. Knock on wood. I'm not too concerned. I had a 90 Eclipse with a 20G that lasted me 50,000 miles at 20 psi. Twice the H.P. for that many miles aint bad! Now that I'm grown up I still want to have a little more fun without going crazy. No turbo's just some minor stuff. intake, exhaust, computer tuning and that header info you mentioned about the 3.0 Eclipse that requires cutting sound's good, man that's a lot of H.P. for some headers!

Why thank you. We are enjoying it so far. And for the money, I think it's a great bargain for what you get in the family sedan category!
