Just curious, I don't understand how your SHO is powered by Yamaha?

Thanks! Currently the SHO is running 0HP....lol I need a new starter. I have never had it dynoed so I will make a rough guess. It mostl has suspension and handling mods, as well as an 80mm MAF, chip, intkae, full borla cat-back exhaust, and a short shifter. I ran it at a [email protected] MPH missing second gear 3 times (getting used to that short shifter). I have a nitrous kit being installed soon (75 shot) so Im going to GUESS the car can run a mid to low 14 provided that I hit all the gears.

ALL SHO's are powered by yamaha.

Back in '89 Yamaha built an experimental racing engine and showed it to Ford. Ford loved it. Originally it produced 300HP and was going to be put into a mid-engined sports car to replace the Mustang. However, Ford couldnt part with its dearly beloved Mustang so they decided to detune it (So it wouldnt be faster then their legendary pony car) and drop it into a Ford Taurus, thus creating the SHO (Super High Output). From 1989-91 they were all 5 speeds, 3.0L, 24 valve, DOHC with 220HP. Then from 92-95 they introduced the automatic SHO as well as continuing on with the 5 Speed. The only difference the automatic SHO came with was that it was upgraded to a 3.2L. Then from 1996 to 1999 Ford came out with the ugly ass round Taurus. The SHO had a complete makeover, only coming in automatics, beefed up to a 3.4L 32valve V8... which incredibly, is slower than the V6.

T'was discontinued after a 10 year run. The motors are basically bullet proof. For testing, they put one on a stand and revved it to 10K RPMS for 14 hours straight and it never over heated or anything. They gave it a 7RPm rev limit in the SHO to protect the interioir accessories. You can find Gen 1-2's for real cheap on Ebay or in the classifieds sections. Fact is, they are Taurus's.... so they have no good resale value whatsoever. The aftermarket on them is horiblly small, they are a ***** to work on, and parts are real expesnive. These cars are maintanence hogs.

Yeah, bulletproof motor. Unfortunately the whole car falls apart around it though. I've heard of a lot of Gen1/2 SHo guys having a second car just for parts.

15.2 @ 96?

Hit the gears and the launch and you ought to be running mid/high-14's. My Maxima (1999, 190hp, 5spd, stock) will do about a 15.2, but only a 91-92 mph trap.

EDIT: that reminds me, I ran into an old Gen1 SHO on the highway once. OMG, I had no chance. I think he had some mods, but geez. I didn't even bother trying. Those cars HAUL on the highway.

Ha, yes your right. I just recently sold my parts car. SHOs are dogs out of the hole. Always breaking motor mounts. Besides that, they ALOT. Best time to be impressed by a SHO is like you said, on the highway. 3rd gear is a SHO's best friend.

Hmm, would ya mind passing me the link to that site if you get a chance? I'm a member on many SHO websites, it would be a shame if someone were using the pics of my car to claim as theirs. Thanks!
