How strong is the 2JZ-GE engine?

I have that in my GS3 and i know its a stout block. But how stout is it really? I mean how much HP can it make w/o changing any internals?

Also, the auto tranny in that car, I know it can be built up unlike the av6 trannies. But how much HP can these auto trannies handle w/o dying? Lastly, does the GS3 and the GS430 share the same auto tranny?

Tune your fuel and spark well and i'd say you'd be fine to 350-400hp depending on mileage.

The 2JZ-GE is a fairly stout engine. 400 HP should be nothing for it to hold. Because that's what the stock tranny is good for ... roughly 400 HP. Expect a shorten life out of the tranny though unless you're considering an upgrade.

the w55 (stock IS 5spd tranny) has been known to break at a low 340whp where the auto trannies for the IS can hold up to about 400whp

an IS member swapped a W58 tranny (i think SC 5spd) for abtou 600 bucks with 60K miles on it.

i would assume the stock GS3 tranny would hold about the same.

the motor would be good for at least 500whp on stock internals

yea, but the tranmission didnt last too much longer

its ok tho, the IS'ers know the W55 tranny is a pos anyways. The R154 tranny upgrade can be acquired for pretty cheap. I think doublin from is300.net blew his tranny with SRT stageII

GS4 tranny is good up to 550 hp

SRT got a couple of them running around on stock tranny
but people upgrade tranny cause it feels way sluggish with that much power. hell my tranny feels sluggish with nearly stock power.

Guys lets not forget there ARE some differences between the -GE and the -GTE motors. The 600whp stock internal numbers are seen on the -GTE internals, not the -GE's.

But the -GTE bottom end is a fairly cheap replacement from the used toyota parts bin

The problem with the 1998 and up models GS300 is that the engine runs on digital signals while the supra GTE motor uses analog signals, you would have to rewire the entire car, and many of the electronics inside would not function. You could do a JDM Aristo swap, but the harness for the engine does not line up with the USDM harness, so there would be trouble in that. The GE motor in the GS can handle a small amount of boost but the fuel map would have to be retuned to adjust for the VVT-i since the valve timing would cause the fuel map to run dangerously lean in the upper rpm band and the chances of causing detonation would be quite high.

The only reliable option would be either have the harness AND the jdm motor swap, or have the engine fully rebuilt and tuned. The GS300 4spd tranny can handle up to 450 hp, the GS300 5spd can handle 400hp.

option 3 (the unspoken option): buy a pre-1998 SC300 and it is a direct swap for the turbo supra GTE motor, transmission, and other components, tune for an amazingly fast lexus.

btw, i own a 1998 GS300 and asked around for the price of turbo build ups and engine swaps, price: 12,000 to 16,000... having a 4000lb sedan that can spank ricers everywhere...priceless.
