?Corolla S?

Hey guys, most people know me here because I own a AV6, but my mom is buying a new car so I need some opinions. She doesnt have much money to spend, but she's already priced out the Toyota Corolla S Black/Blue paint. She loves the way it looks plus she likes the engine...shes been driving my rental Corolla CE.

Do you guys think this would be a great buy for her?
What would ya'll recommend for looks/performance/economical?

Shes going to buy new so recommend for this price range or under...not "for a few thousand more...."

Thanks guys
BomB

Corolla should fit your mom perfectly. It's a very reliable car.

The Corolla S sounds like the perfect car for your mom. But isn't the Corolla S supposed to have a more powerful engine than the other trims. The 2004 model ahs the same engine on all three trim levels. And I thought the S was the highest trim model .

S = Sport

The highest trim is LE

Just like the last gen maximas had GXE, SE, GLE
the corollas have CE, S, LE

I beleive the only diff. in the "S" model is a slightly better suspension. At least, that's what it used to be...

Yeah that and the appearence package. This is what I got as a rental when getting my car fixed. I think it would be perfect for your mom decent midrange with the vvti. I would not recomend it to anyone on the forumn though that was torture!

Geez guys, thanx for the input! I've talked to her and I think she is sold on it! Keep in mind she is (only) 47...she told me "I think I'll get the low end wheels and the money I save I'll put towards some better 'rims' and tires." Imagine that! She's all in tha know..guess thats a sign that I've been living at home for ttttoooooo long! BUT HOW ELSE COULD I HAVE BOUGHT MY '00 NIGHTHAWK EX V6 CP!!!!!!

-LETS SEE IF WE CAN KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE A LIL' LONGER-

What rims/tires combo would ya'll recommend for a Black Corolla S? Keep in mind..I wont be able to talk her into getting a manual (slosh box's sux a$$).

Thanks Again,
BomB

TRD makes a super charger for the 2003 corolla, talk your mom into getting that!!!
sadly there is, and TRD won't even make one for the celicas. even tho the GT has the same motor.

Whos the best with dealer negotiations on this board?
Is it possible to subtract out or just not pay for those holdback fees? I mean I've done my homework, I want the dealership to make a good profit, but do Toyota dealers always CHARGE you for holdbacks? What are my mom's options?

BTW I have the invoice sheet..If ya'll need...I can scan it.
Thanks,
BomB

Call the dealer. Ask to speak to the Fleet Manager. Tell him you want to buy the car for invoice price + $400. I don't think he will turn you away. Basically, they are making about $400 on the deal. Maybe a tad more.

The Corolla S is a nice looking little car. I just saw a commercial for it a little while ago. It makes me wonder if I should've saved some money and gotten one of those instead of my AV6.

I just read the C&D with the economy sedan test and they said the Corolla was best suited for women I guess I don't regret not buying one now

Well I have a 2k V6 EX coupe, black..in the shop. I also have a rental car, 2k3 Corolla that I drive everywhere. I definately hear your point on the old Corollas, but the new ones are redesigned and are actually very fast with an automatic.

IMO they look much better than the Civic. I was very reserved about getting this Corolla as a rental, but geez I love it!

corolla s 5sp 0-60: 9.5 sec 130 bhp @ 6000rpm 125 ft-lbs @4200rpm

the av6 will take off like the corolla isnt even moving

S makes it look more sporty
it has the body kit on it
that's a very nice buy

my girlfriend has that car, w/o S though
but still.. its pretty much the same except the body kit and susp.

for me, i think the matrix is even better
my sister has a matrix and that car is great for that price
i duno how much the corolla S is
but my sister got her matrix xrs out the door about 20500 (only)
so... you might wanna think about the matrix

btw, xrs is the highest model
it comes w/ body kit, spoiler, 6cd-changer, 180hp, fog lites and other goodies

FYI - invoice plus $400 does not mean the dealer is only making $400 ("or a tad more") profit.... believe me, there is profit, in a couple of forms, built into that "invoice" cost....that is why some dealers can sell you a car for a penny over invoice....they're making a lot more than a cent on that car!
