I like radical cars. Cars that are done based on the owner's spec, not what the trend dictates.

dang that's really good for a midsize sedan...prolly had a slight drop because of all the A/C usage. So they do perform close to what EPA estimated.

I just wish the price was more in the low 20s.

Actually the A/C doesn't run on gas... it's an electric a/c system that runs off the high voltage hybrid battery

I have one myself, bought it for my g/f Anna, drove it acorss US from california to new jesery last wendesday heh and i flew back this past friday.

Well...the A/C drawing power from the hybrid batteries is not directly burning gas. But what do you think charges the hybrid batteries? The gasoline burning engine. Regenerative braking won't be enough to charge the batteries. Drove around in a Highlander hybrid for a trip so I kinda understand how it works.

True, but it's still better then an a/c running off the engine belt. Not to mention the hybrid does have a "eco" mode which is supposely to use less electricity but just takes a little longer to cool, assuming your not in the "LO" or "HI" setting. So if you really want to boil down to it, I doubt the A/C in a hybrid will affect your mileage noticbaly at all compared to using one like in the sicon tC with the same engine.

I still find it neat to eat lunch in the car with the a/c on and the engine off =D. To me, I don't see it as the regenerative braking used to recharge the batteries just for a/c, instead I see it as the engine having to kick in just because I drive around the city, and at the same time, the engine plus the regenerative braking will be charging the batteries all the time anyways and is more the enough for me to keep the a/c on when I need it I don't want to be a slave to my car by getting cooked by not using the a/c hehe...

Actually I did test the theory out for fun on the way to new jersey. I still had to fill upt he hybrid about 6 times across the US lol... when anna and I got near the east coast, it was actually raining so I didn't have the a/c on but.. yea.. we still manage to average 500 miles between fill up and filled up approx the same amount of gas. The big difference wasn't from the a/c but was from how hard the car was driven on each tank of gas That's just what i've observed on the trip hehe, never driven a highlander hybrid so I don't have any say in that, but the technology i believe is the same.
