I went to Moss Beach, CA today for a shoot at minus tide. Metup with a few friends, it was a ton of fun. Checkout the slideshow: http://flickr.com/photos/kinetic/tag...fmoonbay/show/

thanks guys.

all the photos have complete exif data. I don't mind sharing... though it's nothing special =P the secret is really to go out and shoot all day at least every other weekend or so, that's how you get better. Talent and all that, that's one thing, but really to get good photos you gotta practice and get out there just like everything else in life.

but yeah, the exif data's in there, just use an exif reader or you can see more shots on my flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/kinetic and it'll show you exif info.

I really don't think it'll reveal any secrets =)

ps. the girl is just a friend of mine. she loves photography too.

Lots of "macro" (I think that's the word). Did you do any post work on your computer?

somewhat lucky, the thing is I spend an entire 2 weeks preparing and researching, figuring out what equipment I'll need and looking around and talking to people of what to expect. then I spend an entire day photographing the area. By going through all these efforts, I happen to find things that are worth photographing, so in a way it's luck, but in a way I'm putting myself at much better odds of finding such cool things =)

Macro works. I was using a 105mm f/2.8 1:1 macro lens all day for fun =) Didn't see much else to do other than the cliche sunset. Post work? I don't think of it as post work. Photography has many levels, preparation and gear, composing the shot, and then processing. With digital, it's easily to make tons of changes in camera, but hell it's much easier to just shoot and let art take it's path, and then deal with the technical sides later. I correct colors, or do black and white conversions, I may straighten some horizons if I need, or add angles, I may fix a shot by cropping, but it's all in the same realm of photography. In short, I do no photo manipulation like some artists do so brilliantly... I'd love to, but I have no idea where to start except purchase something like Adobe Illustrator =)

yeah I know what you mean... sometimes dumb crap shots are made good only to showcase the neat effects you achieved rather than the composition of the photograph.

For me I find a photo I think was composed well, and then adjust it to really show you how I want to interpret or to just correct it to look a little more like how I saw the picture.

For example, sometimes a black and white conversion so to not distract you from dull or boring colors... or to give more contrast to what your subject(s) are.

you got the 105 micro-nikkor??? that lens will be on my list of lenses to get for a long time. i went to the store to try it out with my D80...omg....you can count the fibers on the dollar bill i shot. it's an amazing lens. your pictures are awesome as usual...i like the faded/almost b&w effect you give your photos...it makes you concentrate more on the composition and not the colors.

I use the Sigma 105mm F/2.8. It's quality is amazing! I would've opted for the Nikon's VR version, but didn't want to budget that much for the lens. Now I'm trying to find a reason to go and upgrade to the nikon, but I can't... the sigma doesn't let me down in any way, so there's no reason for it.

Sigma 105 is a great f'ing lens, but sometimes I can see how VR would come in handy.

If I ever break my sigma (knock on wood) I would upgrade to the VR 105mm Nikkor, but I doubt I would replace it outright.

See how sharp it can be?

yeah, I would save up for the Nikon 105mm 2.8 VR if I were you. The extra speed of the shutter the VR gives is actually VERY attractive, especially walking around handholding all the shots.

I usually have to be on a tripod, even in a tad bit of shade, to be at very low ISO settings even at 2.8. f/2.8 has such a shallow depth of field too, it's sometimes a bit difficult to work with.

but if you can't afford the lens ($900?) you can't go wrong with the sigma.
