Downtown Atlanta Post-Tornado Damage (56K Bake a Cake)

Here's just a couple to start with, I'll post more as I get done processing them

All pictures were taken with my D50 and 18-55mm kit lens

It's pretty hard to get the results you want though.. There's so many different settings on photomatix, that and the fact that even if you have a fast computer, merging 7 images together takes like 15-30 mins. So practicing is even tough considering the wait time per image.

Great pics James! Too bad classes are still in effect after Georgia State sustained some damage.

It's got a learning curve, but thats just practice. As far as processing time, the image of the Omni and CNN building with the boarded windows was made from 12 exposures, and it only took 2 mins.

My computer was fast 4 years ago...but not so much by today's standards

I think we have a winner for the "bright" contest.

Haha, I think i've finally mastered it.. well er sort of. Before, the reason why it took so long to process was because i tried using all the best settings like merging
and what not in batch processing. The results wern't that nice compared to tone mapping after you generate the HDR image.

Pictures are really sweet btw, I'll take some of downtown San Diego when I get a chance in HDR and hopefully they'll turn out nice as well. Hehe gives me an excuse to use my new Sigma 10-20mm.

Nope, HDR conversion from around 7+ raw files each...plus some noise reduction in photoshop

So weird to see a giant metropolis like Atlanta and no one is around in the photos.

I know it's lame to "copy", but I still haven't found my own "thing"... so while learning, I want to see if I can do that stuff too. Is "Photomatrix" free-ware, or am I going to have to shell out some major cash?

All of those were taken in the area of Centennial Olympic Park which got messed up pretty bad, unfortunately many of my pictures were duds that night so things like the ground being covered in glass shards, trees standing at 45 degree angles, bus stop benches being twisted up like pretzels didn't make the cut.

I posted up the ones that came out pretty good

The residential areas downtown that were ravaged were closed to the public, as in I would have had to knock over some Atlanta PD Officers to get in there

I wouldn't use "pwn" in this context, but it is what it is...

Here's some pics (via BlackBerry) from when I was on campus yesterday:

United Way:

Suntrust:

Equitable:

Georgia Pacific and lots of other buildings sustained damage. Several roads were blocked off because there was much more damage to buildings than what you can see in my pics.
