Question can you see a difference?

1.

2.

If you can see a difference, what differences do you see, and which one looks better to you, or do they look about the same?

The noise looks a bit less in the first one. Other than that, they look practically identical.

I was looking at a Christmas tree thread on another forum and they said use some spot metering to get a nice Christmas tree shot.

Thanks guys.

Both of these are straight off the camera shots, just different methods in downsizing for the web. The first shot was downsized by my photo host Fotki.com using whatever method they do. The second was downsized via iView professional photo sorting software. Looks like Fotki wins, and it's about 70 KB smaller to boot. I do see a little bit more noise in the other one, and the Fotki version seems to have slightly better contrast and maybe a little sharper method of downsizing also. It does strip out the EXIF information to save space though, and also the sRGB profile encoding.

One person on another site claimed the second one with the sRGB profile assigned looked better and that the first one didn't look right. Minus minor noise/contrast/sharpness differences as a result of different downsize methods, they look the same to me. I think this other person must have some custom monitor or color calibration setup to assume AdobeRGB by default and only to use sRGB if a photo is specifically encoded for sRGB, or something weird like that. sRGB is universal and should be the default for most and "assumed", but I guess not everyone.

Exactly.

Except if you have your color management setup in an arguably pretty dumb way, the 2nd one should display properly but the 1st one will not and look strange. I think that's what's going on. Since everybody likes the 1st one better or can't tell the difference, that shows that nobody here has a funky and arguably "wrongly" setup color management on their computers.

^ WTF!! my friends and I were talking about games the other night and those street fighter and killer instinct lines came up, couldn't stop laughing. ROFL

Don't know ANYTHING about photoshops, editors, etc. All I see in #1 is more shadows in dark spots than #2. Cute kid, man.
