Photography Compensation Question

So I was recently approached by Tom from tunerplayground.com over on HondaTech. He asked if he could use my pictures from this thread http://www.v6performance.net/forums/...d.php?t=194237 (I posted the same thread on HT)for his website. I haven't given him an answer yet. We've exchanged only a few emails and so far no mention of compensation. My question is, should I ask for compensation even though I already essentially posted my images to be viewed for free? If so, how much would be appropriate?

He also asked me if I would be willing to shoot future event coverage for his site. I told him I'd love too. We've schedule a car show in May as my first event! And for that I will be getting paid.

If he's going to be paying you for future photoshoots, then don't charge him for the use of your picture. Give a little, and get a lot more in this case.

Keep in mind though...whether or not you put "copyright" on your photo, it and the rights to it belong to you. Even if you post it on the internet. If you don't specifically give it a different license, it carries an "all rights reserved" copyright. So yes, even though you posted it up on the internet, you can still charge someone to use it for a specific purpose.

yea, since I'll be working with him in the future and I did the shots voluntarily. I let him use it on this site. Thanks for commenting!

Loving it. Gonna start trying to make some money off of it to buy some new lenses and eventually upgrade to FX.
