Ken Rockwell is covering this too and has a bunch of great photos picked out on his site, including high-res versions:

and here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/2009-07-1-new.htm

The clarity of film is still unmatched today by any digital costing less than five figures. I can't get over the quality and clarity of these photos not even considering these were taken 40 years ago. Amazing! Looks like they were shooting medium format Hassleblads (hassy's) among other things and not wimpy 35mm film formats. I've gotten pro scans done on 35mm film (16.8MP) and it doesn't have the quality of some of these, so definitely a larger format.

I need to get myself a used Hassy and jump to medium format rather than plunking down $2k for a still inferior D700.
