D90 Issue

I recently bought a D90 but unfortunately it got pushed off a chair on to the ground. now, whenever i turn it on or off i hear a squeaking sound coming from the camera (not the lens).
anyone have any idea of what it could be?

if i keep turning it on and off it stops making the noise but if i wait about 20-30 sec and turn it on again it makes the noise. its brand new, so i can try returning it to the website or use the warranty but i'm still curious as to what it could be. I wouldn't have expected the camera to mess up that easily.

sounds like the sensor cleaning mechanism is damaged. In the menu system, try setting the "clean sensor on start-up/shut down" option off. That's the only "moving" part that i can think of, aside from the mirror and shutter.

That's what I thought too when he informed me of the situation.

Then you'll have to send it to Nikon to fix. That's really the only way to do it. You don't know what else might be breaking as the motor keeps rubbing parts together each time you turn it on. Check the Nikon website for the nearest authorized service center.

Uhh...sensor cleaner failure after dropping? Hate to say it but the "repair" might be having to replace the entire sensor assembly and/or board. It might not really be a repairable part besides swapping the whole board out. I think you'd still be better off returning it as "defective".
