Talking Just got D40

I've wanted a small compact SLR for quite a while now. And i got one today with the help of my fiance. And Nikon for deciding to make a cut down SLR and not chase canon over who has more megapixels.

This isn't my primary SLR body nor my work horse, i have my d70 and d200 bodies for that, this is my everyday party,BBQ,football, great america theme park camera.

I get to irritated with P&S cameras but until now their really hasn't been a compact dSLR, the d50 wasn't that much smaller than the d70, nor was it good at what it was suppose to do(my opinion of course). "everything i didn't like about the d50 i love bout the D40"

now with the D40: Its not a full manual slr, but was never ment to be, or used as one. its an entry level DSLR made to be easily used by people who have never used a slr before or a digital one, and its obvious when you first turn it on. they're are help tips and windows that give little hints and shutter, exposure and aperture. a good thing for pll who don't know and an annoying thing for pll that do.

For what it's made for its great. soooo smalll i can have it with me at most times without being in the way or becoming cumbersome. works just like every other nikon DSLR. quality well that depends on u, the lens, and u. so i wont get into that . other than to say everything i hated about the kit lens that came with the d50, i liked about the II version that comes with the D40.

The D40 is sooo freakin light, you can actually play catch with it, it looks like a d50 size or just smaller when i've seen pics of it online. but to really appreciate its compactness you have to hold it. its like a civic, but smaller. but not a CRX.

I have to get use to not dialing in the aperture and shutter sizes and speeds. but i can now just point and shoot. I primarily just leave it in Program mode and manual when i use a flash.

If anyone wants a P&S camera and is willing to pay 600....... and doesn't mind the size...... I guarntee they wont hate the D40.

I picked up the D40 this Christmas. Couldn't be any happier. Going to pick up the 55-200 VR as soon as I can.
