OT: Where I've been

I was gone for awhile, I had to take a break from my insane schedule. What resulted was me just procrastinating more.

I took my lady with me, she helped me with all of these shots:

I HATE YOU!!! You live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country, and Hawaii is just a hop skip and a jump away too.

Stunning pics as always!

I need a wide angle lens bad.

The colors on the first beach shot are wonderful. It's like looking out of a window and seeing it right there in person.

any chance i could get some high res versions of some of the shots. i could spend days looking at all the cheesy wallpaper websites and wouldnt be able to find quality like you have in these sunset shots. let me know and i'll PM you a list.

You could deff cut it as a nature or landscape photographer, the only reason why i would see that you would say your just lucky, is if you took hundreds of shots and only those turn out good. if thats the case, you just need to spend a little more time setting up your shots and slow down, which is fine for that type of photography you have all the time you can make for your self. and trust me, you will only enjoy it more if you did it as a living.

Those sunset shots are stunning. You're lucky, but sometimes that all it takes. One of my best sunsets was taking on a 3.1mb, Fuji P&S and to this date, thousands of pictures later, I have yet to get another one.

You should seriously consider selling those sunset shots. heck, I'm willing to pay you some money just to get those mounted on a canvas wrap so I can hang it in my office mpix is ur friend.

Which lens did you use to shoot that shot? Tripod? EXIF? Any idea on what time you took it? I'm sure you took a series as the sun went down and these were just the best ones, but it would be neat to find out how long you were out there waiting for that.

Unfortunately, its very difficult, time consuming and takes a long time to build up that rep to earn enough money as a pro-photographer. I have a few pros that I am friends with and they are constantly complaining how its almost a race each time to find the next client.

Or if they have a series of clients, its very time-pressure intensive to get the products out on time and in good form.

I think he should enter those in some photography contests or set up his flickr site to sell some of those photos. That along will generate some side income.

I was looking for some stock DC photos to use for my law firm website the other day, and found how expensive stock DC photos can be. Anywhere between $50-$500 just for a photo to use on the web!!!!!!!!

After looking at a bunch, I'm planning to just take a weekday morning and go around DC to take my own stock photos. I'm comfortable enough in my own skill level to get equal and possibly better than the ones on the web myself and....for FREE. Heck, judging by how much some of these people are selling their photos, I think I'll be selling mine as well. LOL.

Hi guys,

Sorry but I lost track of this thread somehow! Woops.

Firstly, every one of these shots took a lot of prep, so I don't think I meant that I'm lucky that I can just wakeup one morning, and not even think about it, and take a picture. Each shot takes a lot of prep. I check weather, figure out the sunrise/sunset times, map it all out, find a perfect spot the day before... then I bring all my good equipment, and it takes about 15 minutes to get my camera setup perfectly for the shot I want. On my sunset photos it took more like half an hour... some of the time is spent persuading people to move from the spot they have on a beach etc. These are for my good shots... some I just travel far and find the spots to take photos. I then will stand there for a few minutes making sure lighting is good, adjusting my aperture/shutter, fitting on lenses, and finding the right filter combination. Then I test my white balance, using cards and things like an ExpoDisc.

In all, I do spend a lot of time preparing for my shots... but I enjoy it as a hobby, and I'm lucky that Hawaii is so beautiful for me to shoot =) I do think I sometimes get lucky, like the shot turns out much better than I think etc. I'm never *sure* until I get home and look at the picture from a distance, rather than at the place at that moment.

I don't have a FOR SURE technique that will get the sunset perfect, for example, but from what I know, I'm lucky to get that good of results. I'll play with my apertures, use what filters I have, and see if it comes out. I'm lucky that it has come out, or maybe it's just technology these days.

I do a ton of research, but I need more experience that's for sure.

Thanks for all the comments guys! And no more pix of my girl... for now
