Dizzy's Eurotrip

Some select pictures

Taken off the coast of Naples, Italy. I ran from the rear of the ship to the front trying to catch the sunset right between the mainland and the little island.

These two shots I'm considering putting up for sale after I'm done PP'ing it. LOL. My office mates asked me to sign her copies of these two shots.

1st Shot

2nd Shot

I got lucky and got this shot in between tour groups (including mine!) started to clutter up the shot

I love my friends Sigma 10-20. I'm tempted not to return it to him for awhile...LOL.

Here's the required Colosseum shot that everyone takes when they goto Rome

Italy's easy to drive. Traffic lights are optional as long as you don't hit anyone, and pedestrians walk at their own risk.

In Paris, you have to watch out for those little "Pedestrian" lights at every block and mid-block that sit eye level and even at what appears to be the middle of the road

I've driven in NYC many times as well as Taiwan (just gotta watch out for those scooters everywhere!) so Europe is a piece of cake. The smaller the car the better too. We had a person on the ship who rented a Ford Expedition and ended being stuck down a narrow street. I really don't know what they were thinking trying to drive that around the streets of Rome.

That being all said, no I didn't drive. I took the taxis everywhere in Paris and had tour buses haul us around for Rome, Vatican City, Marseille, Naples (Pompeii and Sorrento), Monaco, La Spezia (Pisa) and Palermo.

For those traveling to Europe, I highly recommend Pacsafe products. You can get them at your local REI store or online. The hip packs w/ steel reinforced loops embedded in the fabric prevents cut-aways and snatchers. They also sell day packs and larger back packs w/ metal mesh embedded to prevent drive-by knifers (they cut your strap from a scooter and drive away.

My opinion of Italy is that its filled w/ theives. It is nothing like NYC at 2am as someone suggested. I would feel safe as hell hanging out in NYC at night compared to Italy. Paris wasn't bad...except I got my cell phone stolen in the Mona Lisa room. Thank god for phone insurance....the $110 deductible still hurts though. I left my fanny pack at home...grrr.....and the one day I forget to take precautions, I get my T-mobile MDA lifted. Thank god I don't keep anything like passwords or CC#'s on it like some idiots do. I'll post up the great picture of the Mona Lisa that the guard let me take I'm not sure if it was worth my camera though.

LOL. no camera phone can zoom up 100 plus feet to that ceiling and take such a clear shot

I have around 50 plus shots of the Sistine Chapel ceiling Nippon TV helped pay for the restoration of the ceiling and in return, they got a exclusive copyright to Sistine Chapel ceilings. Hence the reason why the guards won't let people take pictures.

However, most advance amateurs like me w/ a DSLR and a battery grip and good zoom lens can easily turn the camera up, walk around mingling with the crowd and take many good shots all w/o even looking through the viewfinder. I paid $$$ for an exclusive VIP afterhours tour of the the Vatican, Vatican museum and the Sistine Chapel so I have no regrets taking those pics. I even have the Pope's private car collection as well

They don't throw ppl in jail for taking the pics though. A lot of folks did it in my tour group, you just have to be less obvious about it and NO FLASH! They know most folks w/ the little P&S cameras won't get good shots anyways due to the lighting and they know folks like me w/ a fully geared DSLR know enough to bring a good low light lens and not be obvious about taking pictures to pretty much leave me alone.

To get the REALLY good zoomed shot, I ducked behind the gates at the far end exit of the Chapel and looked though my viewfinder and zoomed in really close for the money shot.

There's no way for me to sell these shots, but I certainly feel good about taking some great shots. LOL.

There's some night time lighting copyright issues with the Eiffel Tower also. Just Google for that and you'll find a similar scenario where the company that paid for and installed all of that fancy lighting for the Millenium celebration in return got copyright, so you can't sell any of those either without permission.

I don't regret taking any of those either. I'll just print out some poster sized shots for my living room and who will know?

nice shots btw
