Hi everyone,

So sometime here within the next year I am looking to get a second vehicle, something a bit sportier than I have now (a 1999 Honda Civic LX Sedan). The two cars that I am realistically considering are either an 06-07 Accord V6 Sedan, or an 09-11 Civic Si sedan, both of which have to be a manual.

I am interested to hear what you all have to say about this, as the majority of you are owners of Accords here. I'd like to hear what you have to say.

I have a couple of questions/concerns (how does the leather hold up? Most of the accords on the market have >50K miles on them now). Have you run in to any reliability issues with your car? How do you like the non-navigation system vs the navigation system (I am only looking at Si's that have the navi, as the dash is far too ugly without it).

I appreciate any insight you all may have on your cars. Thanks!

Me personally I would get a Si. They offer more aftermarket parts and is easy to gain more power. Si's responds to bolt-on parts really well. All of my friends drive an Si with exhaust, headers, intake, and Hondata FlashPro. I would rather have a Si Sedan than my V6 Accord.

The reason for getting the car is because my current Civic has 150K on the clock, and just driving to work alone I put nearly 16K a year on the clock. I want to keep my current civic as a work vehicle while having a second car to modify and enjoy in the evenings/weekends.

As far as my modifications I would make would go, it would be something along the lines of Intake, Exhaust, possible ECU flash & tune, lowering springs, A/R bars and visual upgrades (wheels, HFP lip kits, HID projector retro-fit). Nothing crazy, no turbo or S/C, not trying to make 300 WHP. Just a fun car to enjoy and keep the miles low on while I have my 99 Civic as daily transportation.

The Civic Si may be "sportier" in that it is smaller, has the sport seats and is more "tossable".

To the Accords defense, it has leather seats (with heaters) is quicker in acceleration. But how supportive are the seats? Do they have good side bolsters or do you tend to slide around while pushing the car? How much body roll is in the suspension, and would a drop+camber kit and A/R bars negate a lot of that body roll?

These are the questions I am going through. I like the Accord because you don't see as many of them out there as you do Si's, but they also have more miles on them and there is not as large of an aftermarket as there is for the Si's (sadly :( ).

Just here to see what current Accord owners have to say.

Well the 2010-2011 civics do come with leather seats you know. Also for ur goals, if its nothing extreme and not trying to gain 300whp u would be better fitted with accord. U also said intake and exhaust is all u want and "possible" relfash, accord doesnt have headers, so its perfect lol. But about the seats, i dont slide in my accord, and i hit corners all day long in mines. Also about the acceleration if u want more then, the si with intake, exhaust & reflash is still slower than accord manual acceleration (without the intake, n exhaust). Once u drop that Race header in then thats a different ball game (but ur not aiming for that like u said)

The accord v6 market is now a growing one, because of jswaps n so on. But about the body roll u will have more in accord than civic for sure. Comfort, quietness, power and torque is what u will feel in accord. The si, once u drop that catback, that sucker will be loud. The si is still comfortable, just less than accord. Handling is better and driving is a lil more spirited (high compression motor with dohc explains that). All you will feel in the si is high revving horsepower, u wont feel torque lol. Last but not least the si will attract unwanted attention (people trying to compete with you daily on road, highway etc) the accord is sort of in camo, and most people wont know about its performance till its too late lol.

This is coming from personal experience driving around both cars for a 2 years plus now. For you my friend, Manual accord is better suited

Get the Accord sedan
But goodluck you will have a hard time finding a 6spd 06-07 Sedan
You'll be surprised how quick our cars are especially with a few added bolt ons. And like you said to the Accords defense they are different. I see SI's everywhere.. and when I see SI I think of something childish.
I love the heated seats best mod!

if your looking for something sporty for weekends, then why not get the V6,6 Spd coupe? My Accord w just an intake pulled a supercharged Si coupe. Not by a huge margin, but enough. So it has the power you'd be happy with.

I personally like the 06-07 Sedan only..
You of course must be excluding adrians car, which I dont think would look as good if it were 06-07. But I am biased.

My choice I would prefer the Civic Si over an Auto Accord V6. Find a 6MT Accord and that would be my choice hands down. Much more torque to play with and the car can be relaxed when you want it to yet has the balls to tear up the road when necessary too.

A nicely done and mildly modified accord would get you a bit more exclusivity too.

well its all in what you like to do,(curves or straight) because both cars are great!(IMO driven both)the civic's got way more support and handle's better but for going straight the V6 accord all the way(cheaper mods, faster times)its bigger so you can do more with it (family wise) and + your on a accord forum :)

The reason why I am looking at getting a sedan is because 1, I have a sedan now and love the practicality of having a second set of doors to get in and out of the back seat and 2, I hate how loooooong the door are on coupes.

I'm not as much about straight line power as I am the curves. The reason I look to a v6 is basically for torque (which the K20 in the 8th gen Si has none of), and for overtaking on the highway. My dad just got a new Optima SX turbo and it is so nice to have the power to overtake someone on the highway when they just don't want to move over. I think that putting lower/stiffer springs on the car coupled with front and rear A/R bars would help with the body roll issue, no?

I'm glad to hear that the seats in the accord have enough support (I've sat in an 08 TL type S and loved the seats in that (yes I know that the TL is based off of the Accord)). I guess my last question(s) are how is the leather holding up in your interior and how many miles do you have on your car and have you run in to any major issues with your cars thus far other than the 3rd gear issue on the 6 M/T and the brakes wearing out quickly (Any oddities with suspension, and rust developing anywhere, etc)?

Sorry for all the questions, but I do appreciate all of your input. Thank you again.

I doubt you'll have many issues with the 06-07 Sedan because it's been in making for a while so they've fixed many of the issues you're concerned with
But like I said earlier it's really hard to find one.. they're rare.
As far as body roll of course the civic is going to handle better. It makes sense logically because it's a smaller and lighter car.

All these cars have in common is that they are built by Honda. Even in sedan form these are very different.

I personally like the style of the si sedan over the accord - the accords (especially w/o the lip kit) blend in too much with the corolla crowd for my own liking (begin flaming). Hell, I even like the si sedan more than the coupe. I think that's a great looking car.

However, the Accord is a bit more civilized and adult. However, it also has a more power. I've driven a lot of V6's, and the J30/35 is a really nice motor. Good note, solid pull, and reliable (which goes w/o saying on a honda board I'm sure).

That's my .02....glw whatever you choose though.

I personally would get the accord because since you are gonna tune/modify it one way or another it would be unique. Most SI you see on the road is modded one way or another, but how many accord sedan v6 are modded? If you like to creep up on other people, they sure heck wont expect an accord to beat'em especially if its known to be a family car.

Must ... resist.... troll...

Style and whatnot out of the way.

Faced with a relatively similar decision, TSX vs AV6, I chose the AV6. I made the choice for ****ty body roll and less mods, because I wanted a comfortable cruising vehicle. Cabin noise alone drove me away from the Civic SI.

Price is going to be a big consideration for you. The AV6 sedan, in manual, is a "rare" car, with resale on the decent ones holding up reasonably.

If I was faced with the used market (I was buying new), I'd buy a TL over the AV6. Same limited mods, and a nicer car. Especially if you are going to keep your EK as your daily driver, why not join the luxury world?

I have looked at TL's, and if I were to get one it would be an 06-08 manual. The 07-08 manuals only were the Type-S, which cost some money. What it really comes down to selling price of the vehicle, and how much insurance and maintenance would be on either car.

There is no doubt that the TL type S blows the accord away on styling, and even on performance. But is it worth the extra cash? Plus on top of paying more for the car, the replacement parts are more expensive because "it's an Acura!", and I'm not sure what insurance costs would be on one versus the other, but I am sure that the Acura would cost more. Is it a nicer car? Absolutely. Would I be able to afford to keep the car and not go broke over time? Maybe...

My vote would go to the 06-07 V6 6MT Sedan. It's quick, comfortable, practical, and there's enough aftermarket support (if you want to go that route) to make it look as good as you want. If you really need the navigation then they're out there, but you could always go and grab a $150 unit that will work just as good, but wont't have the convenience of being built into the car. I had an 06 6MT sedan (no nav) and loved it, but a leg issue forced me to get rid of it for an auto.

Take your time. I took my time and got lucky. found a 06 accord v6 auto unfortunately with 75k and the leather, inside and out is flawless. Navi and etc. paid 13k for it. dont know where you're from but here in Washington I found tons of v6 6spds.

I live in Pittsburgh, PA. If it's at a dealer though, I may be able to talk them in to shipping the car to a local dealer here for pick up. I'm willing to drive to get my car, just probably not 2200 miles... haha

if this is gonna be your play mod car, get the SI hands down. Since you want the sedan (coupe looks better) then if your current civic ever has problems, you can still use it. The accord would be a more mature option, less fun out of the box but more usable and easier to live with. I ened up with the accord over the RSX for that reason...and then I modded it:rolleye2:.

I got my accord because I wanted both worlds, sporty and modable but large (relativly) and liveable. I put about the same miles on my car as you and it's only complaint about the accord in general was over the auto tranny and the slushy stock suspension...everything else was golden so i bought it.

you may want to ckeck the MD carmax's site. I was there about two weeks ago and they had a silver 06 accord sedan...6 speed.
