6 Speed Manual Transmission Swap Guide and Harness Info.

There has been much confusion with swapping a 6 speed manual transmission into a 6th gen V6 Accord. I thought I would write this post to allow people to easily understand how the process works without unnecessary reposting of this topic over and over again. As well as filling my PM box with one sentence messages asking "How do a swap a 6 speed in my car?"

The Module
Overview
The swap module allows for the interfacing of the 6 speed manual transmission with the stock Accord 4 speed automatic transmission computer.

Without the module the following feature will not work.
-VTEC
-Full rev limit
-Speedo
-Reverse lock out
-Reverse light
-Passing inspection due to CEL

Parts list
The parts used for this swap are quite simple everything is available from Honda except the harness. Try to get as many parts off the donor car as possible. Here are some diagrams of the parts needed.

You can purchase parts and view detailed diagrams at Honda parts sites such as www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and www.acuraautomotiveparts.org. I find these are great sites for diagrams which allow you to see what is involved in a swap.

Mounts
The only mounts that are required to be change are the transmission mounts. The rear engine mounts can also be changed with a CL-S mount which is stronger but is not required. For the transmission mounts use the ones from the 03 CL-S 6 speed.

Axles and Intermediate shaft
The stock axles and intermediate shaft work just fine with the 6 speed transmissions. The CL-S axles are suppose to be stronger and thicker.

Pedals
You can use either the 03 CL-S or I4 Accord pedals.

Clutch hydraulics
You can use the clutch lines from the CL-S as well as the master cylinder. I have tried using a master cylinder from a mid 90's Civic as well and it works just fine and is a good bit cheaper.

Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate and Flywheel
You can use the clutch disc, pressure plate and flywheel from any 6 speed transmission. The Accord, TL and CL all use the same clutch but the CL uses a different flywheel which doesn't matter with this harness.

Shifter and Linkages
The I4 Accord shifter and linkages are not a direct fit and will have to be modified. The only linkages and shifter that are a direct fit are the from the 03 CL-S.

Starter
The automatic starter will not bolt up to the 6MT transmission you will be one from any 6MT car.
03 CL-S 6MT
03-07 Accord 6MT
6 Speed Transmissions

6 Speed transmissions from the following cars can be used. But the Accord and TL transmissions will have to be modified slightly by welding on a stud for the shift linkage. (more on this later)
03-07 Accord V6 MT (NO LSD)
03 CL-S MT (LSD)
04-08 TL MT (LSD)

Special Preparations
Before installing the harness the mechanical aspects and stock wiring should be checked for functionality. This can done be driving the car in limp mode, by removing the transmission range switch from the automatic transmission and connecting it to the engine harness. Then by manipulating the the switch to the N or P position using a screw driver. Test to see if the car will drive. This will eliminate difficult troubleshooting due to the possibility of problems with both the car and harness.

Common Questions
Q: What car will this harness work on.
A: 98-02 Accord V6

Q: Will the harness work with a TL or CL.
A: Not yet we are working on the Type-S ECU currently. The harness might work on the 99 TL and will soon be tested.

Q: Can I use a I4 or Prelude transmission.
A: No only the listed transmission will work.

Q: Can I use this harness with the J32A2 Type-S ecu.
A: No, we are currently working on a harness that works with a Type-S motor. We hope this can be applied to the Accord, TL and CL.

Q: How can I get a harness.
A: The design has been modified for a easy install and will be mass produced soon. The first ones should be ready in around April.

Realy good guide for the manual conversion
Harness

I have a 99 Accord going to do the tranny swap and was wondering if u was still making the harnesses or if the 03 Accord harness would work or what I should do?
Where can i get this done

I have a 2000 accord v6 coupe. Recently my transmission gave out on me again ( for the third time). I am very interested in swapping the AT for an MT. The only problem i have is i am not a mechanic and certainly don't have the skills or tools to do it myself. I was wondering if anyone knew where it could be done and how much it would cost me.
Thank you for your time,
-john
Long shot on an old thread but is richie v6 still selling/making harnesses for the manual swap.thread count is to low to private message.thanks!
Very nice, wish I had the gump to do it myself.
hello, i have a transmission from an acura tl type s 2005, can i install an acura cl type S module??
New on here, I have heard you can get rid of the automatic trans if you use a 1997-1999 Acura CL 3.0 ecu. Ive heard you can do something with supply 5 Volts to the TCM and itll get rid of codes and such.
Hi Richie,

Not sure how relevant my post will be to this thread, but this is the only post of yours that I've been able to find about your ECU module work.

I've been researching putting a 6MT into my '02 Ody, and your "RichieV6 module" gets mentioned as something needed to get the 2nd gen. Ody ECU to play nice with the manual tranny. (MT to come from a '03-'07 Accord or an Acura TL S type).

Lots of things get mentioned about the "idea" of putting a MT into the 2nd gen. Ody, but no one seems to have actually done it (and posted results online). Maybe I'll fail too?

The mechanicals challenge seems pretty clear and surmountable. The electronics challenge is as yet unclear to me.

Some say you need the ECU from the donor car (i.e. the MT Accord ECU), others (Who are taking engine out of an Ody to put into a Civic), say you need the ECU from the Ody (Well, I have that, cause the MT is going into an Ody). It is not clear to me what is needed on the ECU front.

Can you help me with the advice, or with the module? If you believe this is irrelevant to this thread, could we start a new thread? Can you PM me? I cannot PM you, because V6P rules say I have to post fifteen times before I can PM anyone except staff. (I'll sure be posting 15 times once this project takes off, but it can't take off until I get the ECU questions resolved).

Many thanks!

Hi Richie, I have a general question about the transmission mounts. I have the same generation Accord, Exactly which transmission mounts do you change on the sub frame of the Accord ?? I'm actually beginning this conversion as we speak and I have all the parts required to do this kind of conversion. If you have any additional insight on this question, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!!
I'm in the process of converting a 1999 Accord V6 to Turbo and I'm also considering the 6 speed manual trans. Can anybody tell me how or where can I find the swap module so the computer can communicate properly?
Hey brother...do you happen to still have a module for the swap lying around or can you fab one for a Navy dude that just hit a ****storm...?

Doubt it. He doesn't make these anymore. It's been 3 years since Richie posted on this site. He's busy running his company/website.

2nd Gen Harness
Hello, I have a question I need help with. Will a 98-01 Accord V6 bolted up to a 03-07 Accord V6 6MT run with the 03 Accord V6 6MT ECU? I previously did a 06 TL swap and it ran that swap but with a lean code. Just wondering how compatible is the 99-01 V6 to the newer year J series? Thanks for any help!
