hi, im pretty new to this forum just signed up a week or so ago... i had a question to ask ..what would be the best setup for subs...i saw on the forum two different setups where:
1) the subs are firing into the cabin with the amps mounted on the other side( amps seen once the trunk is open)


and the amps




orrr

2) amps on the car jack side and the subs firing out toward the back of the car...i stole their pics :angel:





I wanted to know which would give the best setup for hard bass...i dunt want to fire it in the cabin and have the seats rattle since i dunt have a arm rest, cause its a 2dr... and i dunt want to drive around with the seats down...but i still want the bass to be felt throughout the car so i dunt know which one to choose

its a s12l7 and jbl 1200.1bp amp..taken from my old car(gonna get a new one soon).

o and sorry for taking their pics...if that is against forum rules or offensive just let me know

I have a box in my trunk with a kicker amp. I didnt want the system to be way too loud but nothing rattles and I get a clean bass inside the car. I realy dont care about people outside cause the system is for me to enjoy.
Its realy up to you and how much $$$ you wanna spend. IMO mount everything in the trunk but dynomat your trunk and doors. It will sound decent and loud unless you want to rock the whole street.....

hey thanks,
but how did you place your box? is it firing outside like in the second picture? and you still get a good sound? or is it firing inside the cabin?

I do get a good sound, well good enough for my taste and all my friends like it too. The box is placed like in the picture and the holes are on top. There is not rattling or wierd sound at all. Its all connected to the stock HU. If I turn off the CD player or the ignition, the amp powers off too and the bass is controled by the Headunit. I absolutelty love the setup but I might get a Clean Sweep cause it makes the sound alot crispier.
Like I said it all depends on if you want to shake all the cars on the road or if you want to enjoy the added bass(like me)

This is true, but for the most impact subs should face rearwards,also bass impact is increased when it reflects by this I mean rear or front facing subs ported through the deck reflecting off the rear glass. Bandpass enclosures hit the hardest and are the most difficult to build. Bandpass enclosures also put a lot of strain on subs if they are not properly crossed-over and powered.

I have a Boston Acousitcs Box and Boston Amp, I have the box facing the trunk. You'll get te rattle outside car, but the inside sounds great. Good luck.

I have twin Fosgate 12's in a sealed box facing rearwards with the seats up, it hits hard enough to knock my rearview out of position :eek:

Another thing I forgot to mention is that rear facing sub require a generous amount of sound dampening for the vibration especially Honda's infamous rattling trunk. That can be fixed by tweaking the latch a little.

Mine are facing the rear, I put a good amount of sound deadener on the outside, so the trunk doesnt really rattle, but my entire roof and windshield flex, and I have no rearview mirror. =(

You mention "deadener on the outside", on the outside of what? Are you talking about Dynomat or Stinger Roadkill or a similiar application?

Sorry, I didnt mean outside, I meant the inside of the trunk lid. I pulled the felt off the trunk and applied the deadener. I used Second Skin, the stuff is fantastic, rated better than Dynamat and it's about half the price. The owner of the compant, Ant, was on www.caraudioforum.com and he's really helpful. www.secondskinaudio.com The deadener is a paste, the consistency is kind of like peanut butter. You just spread it on, let it dry, and apply another layer. I ended up putting a gallon of the stuff on the trunk lid, 13 lbs of it, so it stays pretty put.

I have my 2 12" face the rear of the car. If you what hard hitting bass face them towards the rear, cause since it takes longer for the sound waves to reach your ears the sound waves increase in size producing louder or harder hitting bass. The harder you want your subs to hit the more sound deadner you will need, cause the louder, the more rattles you get. My trunk still rattles like crazy even though I have Dynamatted it and even broke my rearview mirror off the windshield. (I say broke off cause the mirror took glass off the windshield.) :eek:

If you direct the sub towards you you'll get tighter hitting bass like a kick drum hit. When you face it towards the trunk you'll get deeper lower bass. I'd say you point it towards the trunk and adjust the bass settings according to your taste and the type of music you listen to.

i have an Infinity Basslink whch is 250 watts with a 10'' sub and a 10'' passive radiator on the other side its mounted in the corner of my trunk on the left side.
pretty weak compared to alot of the setups here but i dont like the giant flashy overkill systems that you hear from a block away. i want to enjoy my music, everyone within 10 car lengths doesnt need/want to hear it. it does however sound clean and deep inside the car and i can adjust it with the remote gain knob.

:werd: Thats how I like my system to be and thats exactly what I have but without the remote bass link, I control the bass from the H/U directly.

SEALED vs PORTED (basic info.)

Now we will start with :

Sealed enclosures : A SEALED enclosure will be the smallest,and is the simplest of enclosures and will have good low frequency extension, but might not have the best low frequency extension. If space is limited.
and its a good choice for SQ fans (Sound Quality).

PORTED enclosures (Bass Reflex) : A PORTED enclosure will generally have a better low frequency extension for a given response shape,but would require a larger enclosure. If you made the enclosure as small as the sealed enclosure, but ported it to gain the low frequency response, the output would deviate from the desired flat response.

Ported enclosures are slightly more difficult to design than a sealed enclosure. When using a sealed enclosure, it is difficult to be so far off as to risk damaging the woofers. In any type of enclosure, the woofer relies on the enclosure for damping. If there is insufficient damping, the woofer's cone will move significantly more than it should. The ported box will provide virtually no damping below the port frequency, all of the control will be provided by the woofer's suspension. Below the tuning (port) frequency, it is possible to cause damage to the woofer well before power levels approach the maximum power ratings of the woofer.
common tunning frequencies :
Sound Quality : 20 up to 28 Hz.
Sound Quality Loudness : 30 up to 35 Hz
Sound Pressure LeveL SPL : 40 up to 80 Hz (test tones are played rather than normal music, to avoid Low frequencies, which damages the speaker).
Its commonly used for competition propose. and not everyday driving.(unless you like listening to test tones for everyday driving).

BandPass enclosures (Single Reflex): Bandpass enclosure can sound good and give you a flat response,but most of the bandpass enclosures(in the market), are not designed for a flat response, this means that they are built to produce a large peak at some frequency from 50 to 60 Hz, these enclosures will work well with Rap, but generally they dont sound good with other types of music.
if u use a banpass enclosure. it should be designed specificaly for your speaker.
P.S : its not always recommended.
