have a local exhaust shop cut off the exhaust tips of your stock mufflers and weld them onto the comptech mufflers. be sure you cover the "face" of the mufflers where the tips will be welded on. do this so the welding spray won't get on your new shiny mufflers. i made the mistake of not covering them before the tips got welded on, and i wish i had. i'm not sure what to cover them with. maybe just cardboard with the circle cut out in the middle of the muffler for the tip to go on? i guess masking tape would also work.
...anyway, the sound is very cool, but i also have my pre-muffler and resonator cut out and straight pipe welded there in place. it's way deep sounding and i get compliments on it.
i ask because someone locally is selling them, so I'm wondering if it's worth it or not. He's selling it for approx 180USD for both mufflers w/tips (not ordering, so i dun have to pay for shipping since local seller)
btw, u got any pics?
I'm going to install these mufflers w/no pre muffler to increase some sound. My question is that if i remove the resonator, will that effect the "quality" of sound? I've been reading throughout the forums, and it seems if u remove the resonator, u can sometimes get that RICE or BEE HIVE kind of sound w/the deep tone. true? i just want deep and clean, none of that distortion.
RESONATOR REMOVED = RICEY or BEEHIVE sound distortion as background noise ? If so, i'll just keep the deep sound w/the resonator since i don't want xtra distortion. Any input?
hmm, had a friend w/just the mufflers, sounds good enuf, he said don't bother removing resonator, it'll just sound like a riced out accord. Loud and annoying, deep tone, but sometimes not CLEAN deep tone.
Finally got them installed, and they're GREAT! Highly recommended, very affordable. Tips are 3.5 inch btw, bought separately
1.Sounds clean/deep w/g35 sound but even cleaner and a bit deeper, especially around 2-3.5 RPM, u start to hear a very nice throaty growl
2. Easy fit, shop only need to make 2 small little axlebacks to fit into stock piping
3. VERY CLEAN looking, muffler fits like a glove like stock muffler
1.IDLE, only slightly louder than stock when idle. More of a purr.
2. Make sure your there when u install, lots of tweeking to get perfect fit. I fitted it just slightly ABOVE what the stock mufflers were set cause i found the stock tips to be too low in the bumper, so i raised it.
OVERALL: BUY IT! you won't be disappointed gaurantee. And if u want it to be loud, u can always just cut out the resonator, but I honestly thing it's PERFECT right now, any louder would be too much, cause when i drive, i can hear the growl inside the car.
The best part, it LOOKS SOOO CLEAN! no xtra muffler face showing, a must have if u want a nice CLEAN look.
Total, it cost me $250 USD (includes installation price, 1.5hrs of work)AFFORDABLE UPGRADE
u should have no problem, they just drown out sound, just don't take out your CAT! Removing your resonators will not effect your inspection, your resonators are just volume controllers for the sound coming out of your exhaust.
hmm i dont know but i figure it would since our car is a ultra low emissions vehicle so with the two other cats i dont know why it wouldnt. but so am i correct to assume that with the removal of the 2 extra resonators that you do not encounter the engine malfunction light that comes on when there is a malfunction in the exhaust/emissions system. I have heard stories of this happening with cat removal/modification and was wanting to make sure of this before i did it.
awesome now i just am gonna feel like a dummy walkin into my muffler shop and having them chop up the brand new exhaust i just put on...haha....guess thats what you get for putting it on at 3 am and not waiting to get on here and check posts before hand.....hope to get it done by the end of the week..
