Maybe this belongs in the audio section-
Anyways...With the installation of a new DVD receiver in my car, bust-and-grab theft has crossed my mind.

Anyone else with DD decks thought of some ideas to help prevent theft? limo tint is already on the table.

DD = double din?

Some people over at avic411 have been making fake faceplates from OEM radios to put over their decks. A lot of people say they only do it in "high risk" areas. It looks goofy, but it works.

Other than that, keep the install as clean and OEM looking as possible and you shouldn't have a problem. Also, don't tell a lot of people that you have what you have. People that know your car and where you park and whatnot.

Alarm?

Tint helps a LOT.

Is yours just a screen or is it buttons and stuff as well?

I'm thinking since it doesn't have any knobs or buttons that protrude out too far, it shouldn't be too hard to cover, and since it doesn't have any colors besides black... It should be ok. Just try to make it look as flush as I can with HVAC controls.

Yea, I was over on the STi forums and they had a couple guys making fake faceplates, looked alright thought they might make some kind of locks or something.

UPDATE:
Alright well my friend and I were installing the last of a couple wires i needed to hook up my GC when he mentioned that DD's ARE the easiest to steal (which I knew). He continued to point out that you only needed to unscrew the screws holding the mounting bracket in place and your done.

My solution to this was...why not strip the screws to hell?
Some might call this idea stupid- ****, even my friend did.
"What happeneds if you ended up wanting to swap our your GC for an xbox or something?"
Most people, at least i think, are not *constantly* adding thing things to their decks. After awhile people aren't going to touch it for awhile once they are satisfied.

Although there are a couple ways to take out stripped screws, (tap & die set, pliers) I'm guessing that if someone wants to steal a DD deck, they are gonna want to make it quick, and probably wont have a tool box handy.

What do you guys think?

home depot sells a screw with a head that requires a bit that is shaped like a square, i used these to hold down my sub box and for the sub and amps themselves.

although i've never seen a short version, i've only seen 1.5" screws. but like AcCoRd16 said, use a screw that has a different shaped head to make it more difficult to remove.
