So I am going to make a thread that tells you exactly what motor and transmission combination that will work for the accord 03-07 v6 if you want to swap it. I am tired of people sending me PM. Now start reading or have something read it to you, and learn.


Engine
Accord 03-05 stock motor J30A4 (direct drop in, swap intake manifold if AT)
The J30A4 pushed output to 240 hp (180 kW) and 212 lb·ft (287 N·m), compression ratio (10:1)
bore 86mm x stroke 86mm

Accord 06-07 Stock motor J30a5 (direct drop in, swap intake manifold if AT)
output to 244 hp (SAE Net 08/04) and 211 lb·ft (SAE Net 08/04) of torque, compression ratio (10:1)
bore 86mm x stroke 86mm

JDM inspire engine 2003-2007 J30??
2997 cm3 / 183.6 cui
Horsepower net:
184 kW / 250 PS / 247 hp (JIS net)
Torque net:
296 Nm / 218 ft-lb
Compression ratio 10.5:1
bore 86mm x stroke 86mm

Acura TL j32a3 2004-2006 (direct swap, swap intake manifold if AT)
Output is 270 hp and 232 lb·ft (315 N·m) @ 3500-5500 rpm

rating system changed in 2006 So 258 hp 232 lb·ft (315 N·m) @ 3500-5500 rpm. Same engine block just now underrated

bore 89mm x stroke 86mm

Acura TL J32a3 07-08 *I call this version 2 because of the changes in the bellhousing (not a direct fit, must swap in bell housing from Accord gen8 accord 2008-2010, must repin the injectors or use stock 270cc, and also must swap IM if AT)

SAE **new rating system* corrected hp for the 2006-2008 TL is 258 hp 232 lb·ft (315 N·m) @ 3500-5500 rpm
bore 89mm x stroke 86mm

2003-2006 Acura MDX J35a5 (not a direct fit, must swap in bell housing from Accord gen8 accord 2008-2010, must repin the injectors or use stock 270cc, and also must swap IM if AT)
Displacement: 3,471 cc (3.471 L; 211.8 cu in)
Bore and stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in) x 93 mm (3.7 in)
Power: 255 hp (190 kW) @ 5800 rpm
Torque: 250 lb·ft (340 N·m) @ 3500 rpm

2005+ Honda Odyssey Van, LX, EX, 2005 Honda Pilot J35A6 (direct drop in with some modification to the coolant crossover pipe/passage {must switch over from the accord}, must repin the injectors or use stock 270cc, and also must swap IM if AT)

Displacement: 3,471 cc (3.471 L; 211.8 cu in)
Bore and stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in) x 93 mm (3.7 in)
Power: 255 hp (190 kW) @ 5600 rpm
Torque: 250 lb·ft (340 N·m) @ 4500 rpm
Compression: 10.0:1

2005-2008 Acura RL, 2007-2008 Acura TL Type-S J35a8 (not a direct fit, must swap in bell housing from Accord gen8 accord 2008-2010, must repin the injectors or use stock 270cc, also must swap IM if AT)

Bore and stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in) x 93 mm (3.7 in)
Power: 286 hp (213 kW) @ 6200 rpm[2]
Torque: 256 lb·ft (347 N·m) @ 5000 rpm[2]

J35z motors. Unknown and oil pump sensor is different from the stock location. Would not recommend using if possible

J35y motors. Unknown and oil pump sensor is different from the stock location, also now have direct injection. Would not recommend using if possible

J37A variation. Unknown if they are direct drop in for now. Might be if they have the same bellhousing as the TL-s and gen8 accord. Would not recommend using if possible


Frank motors

J30 Block + J35 crank and rods = J32 - 3.2L displacement **you get to keep stock block for inspection**
J30 Block + J37 crank and rods = J33- 3.3L displacement **you get to keep stock block for inspection**
J32/J35 Block + J35 crank and rods = J35- 3.5L displacement
J32/J35 Block + J37 crank and rods = J36 - 3.6L displacement
J32/J35 Block bored to 90mm + J37 Crank, Piston, and Rods = J37- 3.7L Displacement

MT Transmission
J30a4 and J30a5 direct drop in but does not have LSD for motor J30A4, J30A5, and J32a3 version 1.

J32a3 version 1 2004-2005 direct drop in and has LSD for motor J30A4, J30A5, and J32a3 version 1


OEM piston info
4-06 TL pistons for a 10:1 compression ratio
03 CL-S pistons for a 10.5:1 compression
05+ RL or 07+ TL-S pistons for 11:1 compression. They are also factory forged to save weight, not for strength. This is why people with j35 cannot run high boost for long before they crack a skirt.

** If planning to go boost I recommend a CR of 9.5:1 and possibly 10:1 with forged piston. The main thing is to prevent detonation. Don't worry about timing advance, you can just crank up the PSI to make up the difference. stock piston/ rod combination will work, but I am unsure of the longevity.

Also I am not responsible if the motor and trans combination does not work. I have researched all this crap and spent a butt load of time on it. So you're welcome!!

Note all motor swap will run on the J30 ecu, but they may or may not lean out depending on the modification that you have done. It is recommended that you run the correct ecu with the motor, or just get hondata flashpro. Flashpro will give you more option vs running the stock ecu especially if you want to run larger camshaft or go boost.


My personally recommendation is get to hondata flashpro first. Everything else can be bought at a lower price since the price of engine and transmission will always lose value over time. Flashpro and the ecu harness new do not get cheaper because hondata has a monopoly **until K-tuner comes out with something**. If you see a flashpro for cheap in the FS you buy it, there are probably 500 flashpro units floating around for the accord and TL. There are thousands of engine that you can choose from and they number keep growing everyday since people do get into accidents and total their cars.

fixed the info. turns out the bell housing the same as the accord. So it will work. 04-06 will work with the accord trans

Here's a question. I'm gearing up for a j36 build. Reading through my shop manual for the 6-6 accord to front load all the info. Can I use the tolerances for the block/rotating assembly listed in the manual for the build or should I be looking at the mdx manual for those tolerances?

probably the mdx for the crank bearing and tolerance. I think they might be the same though, but cross ref it.

Very usefull information =) Thank you.
I want to add about j30a5 engine from Inspire UC1. It have CR 10:5 the pistons are different, its like RL pistons for j32.
And main its have i-vtec and vtc system. ECU are different and have not manual transmission only at with tiptronik. If you want swap from Inspire you should swap it with at and ecu =)

And rods with stiffening plate

all j37a to date.

"+" should be read as "and newer in order of last digit in the engine code"

Updated the info on the j35a6. Waiting for my friend to message me back on which mdx/odyssey he got his J35 from.

You could, but it would require a crankshaft spacer for the flywheel and therefore is not worth the effort.

It would be better to get a the proper transmission, or swap the clutch case housing (also known as a bellhousing to some, but in the case of a Jseries it is integrated into transmission casing and holds fluid. It is compatible with all jseries 6mt internals across all models (aside from AWD models) and is swappable if it is hard for you to obtain a full transmission from the USA due to freight costs or taxes)

MT transmission its very big problem =)
We have only bellhousing from at transmission.

I have all to build j33, but want j36 :banghead:

Andy do you have any picture of the belt housing for the J30a4/5 - j32a3 version 1 vs a j35a8? I am not sure the image I posted are correct.

I think that is up for debate based on gerzand's post.

I was under the impression it was but hard to argue with one of the resident experts.

I am waiting on confirmation. It could have been the J35a4. You just need to swap the cylinder head.
