first you need to take out the auto shifter bezel. i had to cut out a small cross bar so i could take this out fairly easy. just be careful pulling it out, because you still have to take out the lightbulb.

then your console should look like this. see also where i have the lightbulb tucked out of the way? its the red and black wire. if you dont do this, you will see light under your ebrake handle at night.

now you need to attach the boot to the shifter somehow. i did this by putting a few layers of scotch tape around the bottom piece of my shift knob.

then i took 2 zip ties and put them like this

then tightend them up at the top of the 3 layers of tape on the bottom knob piece, cut them and put a new 1 layer of tape over them so that they would stay in place.

then you turn the boot inside out

flip the boot upside down and put the knob in right side up

then you do the same thing with the zip ties as before

then you tighten around the boot with the knob in it. make sure that you tighten the zip tie above the zip ties on the knob piece, towards where the top of the knob will be, otherwise, the boot wont hold to the knob.


now you can go put it on your car.

the console piece looks like this on the underside. the red circles are where the holes on the bottom of the shift boot line up to and where you put the screws in.

i used 4 small wood screws that i bought from walmart, cuz when you order the boot from honda, it doesnt come with any hardware.
this is what it should look like on the underside of the console with the boot fully attached to it.

it will look like this on the topside of the console.

now you put the console on and slide the boot over the shift rod

now i had to attach all the nessesary(sp?) parts for my knob to work and this is what it should look like then

now all i needed to do was screw the top part of the knob on, and here it is finished.

PARTS NEEDED
exacto blade or razor of some sort, for trimming tape and cutting off zip tie ends

the boot

scotch tape

4 zip ties (or only 2 if you use the bigger ones)

I was skepitcal but it looks good...why did you have to put the tap and zip ties on the base of the shifter? I dont understand that part...

i put them on there so that when i zip tied the boot to the shifter it wouldnt slip off. it just makes it stick to the shifter. IMO, it looks and works better then it would then just zip tieing it to the base with nothing for the zip tie to actually take a hold to. my shifter is all aluminum, so it would just slip right off, which is also why i put the 3 layers of tape for the zip ties on the base to grab a hold to.

sorry man, im not planning on cutting my shifter. i like it just the way it is. you just need a pipe cutter and i think thats about it. i think you need to cut the little thing with the slanted top, that pushes it down to shift. thats it really, then just screw on.

its the OEM shift boot. i just went to my local honda dealer parts department, asked for a 1998 honda accord lx standard shift boot. they had to order it in for me, and it was only ~$35. if you want tho, ask for all the correct parts to connect it to the console, cuz it only comes as the boot......i think theres some kind of plate that goes there as well, idk why, it looks fine, and it come with no hardware as well, so either get that yourself, or ask them for it. i got wood screws from walmart for 83 cents.

nice, i didnt even wanna try, cuz im lazy, haha. i dont think it really matters anyway, it just attaches the 2 center console side pieces, and theyre screwed in anyway, so its not like theyre gonna move w/o it either. plus, if you need to take a side off or something......if you cut it out, you wont have to take the whole thing out, haha....another lazy idea.

heres a little update for you guys.......well, the hot summer heat has affected this, quite a few times. since this aluminium knob get soooo hot in the sun in my car, the tape stickyness gets really sticky and the tape starts to slowly slide off, for me atleast, and its cuz the knob is tapered, so your yours is straight at the place youre trying to put it on at, then you should be fine. i tried duct tape thinking it would stick better, and no, it just made a uglier mess, haha. so i went to my dads today and put it on the laythe, and cut a groove in it so it will stay up, so i guess you could say i gave my boot a lil viagra, haha. but yea, i had to actually machine my knob for this to work, but i dont regret it, itll look great from now on, and i wont have to worry about it anymore, haha.

The shift knob is the same I have, its a Razo RA89.

Nice DIY, although I got the same look without taking out the shift base :).
