let me start with...

PREP FOR PAINT IS A B1TCH!!!

Story was, I needed to paint my front bumper.
3.7 trillion rock chips = time for new paint job.

Local reputable paintshop quoted me $350.
I was like... hook up an asian brotha.
then, he said if I bring the bumper that is sanded down good, and primed,
he'll use sealer, and paint them for $180.

I was like YES!! THATS NO PROBLEM!

I spent like 6 DAMN hours. I didn't even use paint thinner/stripper.
I was afraid it might go through the fiberglass bumper.
so I decided to just sand that b1tch down with low grit..
going through higher grits afterwards..
Primer was easier than sanding I guess.
It was still tough to give equal sprays all over with just spray cans.. no spray gun.

I now understand why paintshop always talk about 'we gotta prep this.. prep that..'

Before:

After:

I know I know.. Its no where near like professional's job..
but I thought it turned out pretty good for someone like me who have
never done anything like this before..

anyways. so yeah. Lets not get so upset over why paintjobs cost so much.. :D

^ oh you definitely got that right. My back and arms were numb for few days.

I didn't realize how big the front bumper is until I actually had to sit down next to it
and start sanding it. lol.

Your prep looks bad ass.....good job. It is always the PREP that costs the most. I have preped an old camaro...a beat up POS (67 or so, line 6 ) and we rattle canned it......looked ok except the bugs that got caught up in the paint. HA HA HA HA

thanks for compliments guys. I could sure use some for my next paintjob I have to do. :D

I just used NAPA's gray primer and no problems.
Used up 3 rattle cans. Light coats after light coats,
slight sanding after each coat for smooth finish.

the bottom of the bumper doesn't look as goodt, because I honestly didn't even really
sand it nor primed it well, as I could careless of what the bottom of the bumper
look like. :D

Thanks guys. :)

I first used 300~400 grit to scrape the paint off. Then I went up by 200grits.
Sander? I didn't even know there is such thing. lol. I am a newb. :D
I just used hand. Nothing else you can trust. :D

Its a good exercise I guess. I don't know if you guys noticed it, but I also used
fiberglass-filler, and covered up the license plate holes.

Great weekend project for those who likes to do something to their cars.
but remember, be ready to get some backache and crap. :D

My bumper is on again, and few pics I took. :)
